  • Help?Severe dry eye

Recently went to my 5th eye doc. No,,,i dont have ocular rosacea once again. I ask and they say my skin doesnt look like it. I did shimmers test again and it shows i hardly get any tears. 2nd one i have done in 6 months. I still am seriously dry all the time. However, i ask him, i am havin ghorrible headaches now. I am stopped up in the upper nose. I think i might have had sinus infection for year or so now. My allergies are horrible. Just skin allergies, etc..not really sneezing or anything. BUt i did test for allergies before and they were bad. My eyes get red so easily. First thing in morning always. I was wondering if sinus related symptoms can cause red dry eyes. I am onmly 28 male and have great eyes. Just red and DRY. Something is underlying cause? Coudl it be sinus? Or what else could it be./? Not ocluar. Thanks for helping

    Hello Shane,

Have you seen an allergy doctor? Nasal and sinus passages connect to your eyes, so getting allergies under control frequently helps with eye problems too.

    Good luck,

    Lynne

i have seen allergy Doctor. I am allergic to everything under the sun. Even food allergies. I am just now getting horrible headaches all day long. Why doesnt patanol, or anything like that help with eyes. They are burnign so bad with NO TEARS. It seems like its worse now b/c of my headaches that last and it goes with buring eyes. Very strange. But I really didnt know if the dryness was coming from allergies? I guess it is? No other way? I wouldn think. Normally, i am very healthy. Just headaches, congested, and red dry eyes. Thats pretty mcuh my symptoms. I also use to get flushed of the skin easily. Like histamine release. I think overall picture is allergies. ONly thing docs can diagnosis me other than dry eyes which might be related to allergies. I also flush and get hot in face when i breath in certain odors or certain allergens?

        Hello Shane,

If you know you have allergies, and you currently have severe congestion, I suggest you need to get that under control before tackling the dry eye problem. Have you seen an Ear-Nose-Throat specialist for the sinus infection?

In my experience, Patanol does not do much to help my allergies when I have sinus pressure and nasal congestion.

For congestion, the nasal sprays like Nasonex or generic versions are better. I also use Sudafed, to help drain the congestion, and Aleve to reduce the inflammation; and a humidifier in the room where I sleep. My allergy doctor recommended I add Zyrtec whenever my symptoms flare up.

You may also find some form of moisture chamber glasses or onion goggles helpful to retain the moisture you do have.

        Good luck,

        Lynne

appreciate the help. Had CT scan of sinuses and he said nothing as far as sinus issues...was some mucous or something or other. I cant be in very lighted places without turning flushed, red eyes, and headache now. Also smell of perfume. Also in airports, etc..eyes are worse. I went to eye doc with no tear production> My eyes are horrible in morning. He said no allergy eyes because it doesnt itch, etc...could it still be allergies. I have pressure in head almost all day. Just not sure. waht type of sudafed???would that help with headache or do i need to see allergist? Should i see ENT if it is more allergy related. Just wish my head didnt feel like it has so much pressure and eyes would be fine. Hasnt been that way in a while. Docs dont give me ****.
