  • ? re: lasik a friend hadand told not to ever wear eye makeup? normal?

a friend of mine had lasik 2 years ago ( we werent in contact then ) anyway.. she told me her doc told her to never wear eye makeup again or rub her eyelids as this could affect her procedure???

is that normal advice?? just curious on her behalf.. she cant go back..so far no dryness problems but i have learned from this board it can take years.. thanks everyone.

I kind of think your friend may be remembering wrong.

Re: makeup, how many women would get LASIK if it meant never wearing makeup again? You shouldn't wear makeup immediately after surgery during the healing period, that's all.

Re: rubbing eyes, theoretically you could dislodge the flap, though I don't think I've ever heard of this actually happening. (Contrary to the elegant video animations, the flap does not re-bond to the corneal stroma underneath.) With or without LASIK though it's not a good idea to ever rub the eyes 'vigorously'.
