  • Moisture glasses

I am wondering if anyone has any insight into the Zenia moisture chamber glasses and whether or not they could potentially fit a prescription higher than the -5.00 that they say they can.

I am looking for something exactly like this that looks nice and is at least somewhat stylish, and has removable guards in case my dry eye gets better.

My prescription is sitting at -6.00 and -6.75 not as far off. Is this just a problem with how the frames are made or can purchasing a higher index lens help the situation? Would a local Optical shop maybe be able to fit the lenses if I buy the frame?

I think that can be possible. The UK retailer for the glasses say the following on their Ziena product pages.

Recommended limits if fitting prescription lenses
    • Up to Sphere + 4.0 to - 5.0 and Cylinder + or - 2.0 (see note below about higher prescriptions)

If your prescription is higher than the advised limits

If your prescription is higher than the advised limits quoted above for this frame, it may be possible to fit your lenses into this frame if you use Ciliary Blue rather than a high street optician to fit them.

This is because Ciliary Blue have specialist lens finishing equipment that is not available to most opticians. If you have a higher prescription than the limits advised above, we recommend that you call Ciliary Blue on 01455 293417 to check the feasibility before you order the frames from us.

Thanks for the info! I wonder if there is a place like that in the states that can make the lenses.

I'll have to call around to some local shops to see if they know of anything. I feel like it shouldn't be that big of a problem, but probably just much more expensive.

I'm not fully aware of your condition / severity but there are certain contact lenses that are less drying. Ones with low to average water content, high oxygen permeability and certain curve / surface design are apparently best. Some I see mentioned on dry eye groups by patients and opticians are Dailies Total 1, Acuvue Oasys 1 Day. If those fail you could consider scleral contact lenses which are specifically for dry eye in some cases.

I'm not sure my eyes could handle contacts right now. I'm very tender and I dry out real fast, I had a 1 second TBUT at my last appointment. I feel like I would be much happier if I had a shield for my eyes out in the wind and in my car. I'm a delivery driver and drive at night, it's getting cold and the wind and heater in my car are killing me, not to mention the constant environmental shifts.

My typical night consists of: Heated building, to cold air, to heated car, to cold air, to heated car, to cold air, to heated building.....That process Sometimes up to 30 times in a day.
