  • Warm compresses worsening inflammation?

Hi all. Does anyone find warm compresses aggravate inflammation? I've included them in my daily routine for about four months. The compresses are to help warm up/thin out the oil. But what does warmth do when you already have inflammation? I have ocular rosacea plus MGD. Eyes are inflamed since August (about five months). I have done two IPLs and will have two more, am on lotemax x3 daily, and started 50mg doxy four days ago. After the first IPL my eyes were better for a while. After the second, I'm not sure, they seem like overall they may be a little worse and I'm thinking I should stop doing the warm compresses. Will ask doc when I see him for next IPL ... in the meantime, any thoughts? Thanks for reading.

Call your doctor. If you feel you are doing worst stop the warm compress. It’s like me they used to help me but after a few days I felt worst doing warm compresses

      Hi!

I was actually going to post something about this myself. I am faithfully doing 2 warm compresses a day, using a gel bead mask. I don't find that I am getting much oil out of my eyes anymore. Initially I needed 2-3 minutes for things to clear up after compress. Now I'm good in about 30 secs. The compresses do bring me relief and my eyes do tear a bit after but no big signs that it is helping. Additionally, the bags under my eyes are getting much worse!

My questions are.... do the type of masks really make a difference? I ordered a D.E.R.M. mask, which is what the doctor initially gave me. It should be arriving today and I am excited (and hopeful) that it will be more effective then the gel one and start seeing more oil again.

I have also read that cold eye masks are good for inflammation and dark circles. Does this "freeze" up the oils and throw off any improvement from the warm compress? And lastly, if I have been faithfully doing compresses for months could the glands end up blocking anyways?

I have a doctor's appointment on 12/30/17. Am looking forward to it and hopefully finding out what condition my glands are in. This doctor does do IPL. I do not know if he would even recommend at this point but we shall see.

      Happy holidays everyone.

Please check check your glands, ask for a Meibography. From now on I’ll recommend that to anyone in this forum. Visit a dry eye specialist. If you saw my last post you will understand why . All the doctors that I’ve visited told me my glands were in great shape (around 6 doctors) it turns out I’m in pretty bad shape, they’re all dying.

        Get this done ASAP!

That used to be the case when I had a lot of inflammation. But eventually when the inflammation got under control, compresses no longer bothered me.

About the Lotemax though - I hope you're not planning on doing Lotemax 3x every day for a long time. It's well known that steroid drops like Lotemax, if used too much, can lead to high eye pressure and eventually glaucoma.
