  • IPL & Doxy - Be Careful about burning!

    Hi

I have an appointment with my Dr today about doing IPL. She asked me if I was taking any antibiotic and I said I am on Doxy. She said I need to be off Doxy or any antibiotic 1 WEEK before doing IPL. Make sure to bring this up with your doctor before doing IPL

1 wk is overkill imo, doxy 1/2-life is only 18 hrs.

Doxy causes sun sensitivity is a well known.

If you have dark skin , you may be even less prone to sun burns. She's probably just protecting herself as well.

Depends on his dose...at 200mg a day I'd want to wait a week to be sure he's at zero. 18hours is basically a day, for argument sake it's easier to do the math.

              Day1 200 to 100
              day2 100 to 50
              day3 50 to 25
              day4 25 to 12.5
              day5 12.5 to 6.25
              day6 6.25 to 3.125
              day7 3.125 to 1.5625
              day8 1.5625 to .78125
day9 you get the point...so once you account for each day only being 18 hours, At 200mg it takes at least 7 days to clear 98% of the drug. So assuming maximum dose, waiting a week is perfect. I'd probably tell them 2 weeks if I were the doc performing the IPL. Yes, for my safety and my patients.
