  • Restasis pain

Hey I keep trying to take restasis but after 2-3 days my eyes start really hurting from the chemical agent. Ive put restasis in my eyes after refrigeration, and the drops dont sting initially but they do later. Any suggestions? why is this happening

Apparently a lot of people are allergic to the castor oil in it. I'm one of them or at least I developed a sensitivity to it over the years. One of my specialists put me on compounded restasis without the castor oil. HUGE difference. I order mine through Leiter's Pharmacy and they mail it to me. Your doctor just needs to call in the prescription then thye will call you re: payment. I don't know if other pharmacies make it or not (Leiter's is apparently famous for high quality compounding) although no one in my state does, that I'm aware of.

You might try putting a "cushion" of drops in your eyes, 15 minutes before you use it, then apply your regular drops 15 minutes again after. This was recommended to me by my eye doctor. As it turns out I was allergic or hypersensitive to the medication, or to the castor oil in it, not sure which and could not tolerate it. PotatoeCakes, how much was the compounded medication and will insurance cover it? Thanks.

My insurance doesn't cover it but I think it's probably a plan-specific issue so I'd call your insurance and ask if they cover prescribed, compounded prescriptions. Another thing you can do, which I haven't, is have your physician write a letter stating that you NEED compounded Restasis, etc, etc, reasons, etc and that they should cover it. My parents had to do that with something for my mom and the insurance company reversed its decision, unwillingly but they did it.

I DM'd you cost estimates since I don't remember specifically and I'm not sure if I can give prices on the website.

Maybe this is answer...could be castor oil or could be the carbomer from it...i am in Restasis and i don,t like it at all...it,s burning & stinging hours and my eyes are painfull......but we din,t have compound pharmacies here / i live in Romania.....i am allergic or intollerant to any artificial tear i ever tried, and i tried more than 100 brands ...in fact i don,t think i missed one .. lots of waisted money and no any improvment....in fact only Restazis is a real treatment for dry eyes....and i found out recently about 2 more new : Diquas and Mucosta, both japanese products ,both ethyologic treatments, working differently than Restasis ,i want to try one of them
