  • Lotemax, Restatsis, and Azasite???

    Hello,
I just got back from a new eye doctor who has asked me to use Lotemax,Restatsis and Azasite at the same time. She said she just got back from a conference on ocular disease and that it was suggested that using all three at the same time would benefit dry eye. I have tried all three of these at different times but not all at the same time. Just wondering if anyone has used all three at the same time and what the results were? I am debating on trying this as it seems like so much at once time in my eyes. I really did not have good luck with any of these in the past but she explained that they all have a different function so using them together may benefit me. If this doesn't work (and I have serious doubts) she wants to refer me to a corneal specialist. I do have a really tough case of dry eye and don't want to pass up the chance that this could help but I also worry it could make it even worse. Thanks for any advise or experience that you may have..

Hate to tell you this but I used all three and within a week or so my eyes were so horrible I had to stop...

This isn't to scare you away from trying it, but just one experience. I was using lotemax 4 times a day, Restasis 2x with the hope of eventually reversing it to Restasis 4x a day and off of Lotemax all together and then Azasite one time at night...

    Good luck,
    Margaret

      Hi

I also was prescribed these 3 together(even though I had already had a bad reaction to the lotemax previously)and had a horrible reaction.Within a week was put on Alrex and after using that I had a severe reaction and spent 3 days in bed with cool cloths on my eyes..

Thank you both for your reply. I guess I'm not surprised. I started the lotemax yesterday and my eyes are already a mess today. I just don't think this is the answer for me either. I was on Restatsis for two years and didn't notice any difference at all and to start it all up again seems like just a waste of time. Thanks again for your input. I truly appreciate it!

My eyes are burning and painful and extremely dry. I was using Pred Forte for a couple of weeks and that made my eyes extremely dry and now the lotemax seems to be doing the same thing. My eyes are burning and redder then normal and it's hard to sleep at night. I don't think that using steroid drops are a option for me.

Did you use all 3 drops & if so, for how long & did they help? I've been on all 3 for over 3 months now & still have 2 months to go. I've had some excellent days & some terrible days, but my dr. sees improvement when he examines me. I'm hoping when I've completed the next 2 months I'lll notice a huge improvement. I think I've had some of the worst days of my life though since I've been using all these drops, but I have faith in my dr. He teaches other eye doctors about dry eye & specializes in it.

              Thanks.

                  Hi,
I haven't actually tried all three drops at one time yet. I'm really worried about putting so much in my eye at once. I was hoping someone had had luck with this combination. I sure hope you get a big improvement too!! Please let me know if it works for you. That would just be awesome!!

Did you only use the lotemax just the one time? Are you using other drops as well right now?

                          Azasite

I vote for Azasite. It dramatically improved my dry eyes by unplugging my meibomian glands, but it took about 6 months to work. Restasis was like pouring acid in my eyes and steroids never helped me. Restasis is pushed by its pharmaceutical company to make all the money it can while it's still under patent.

Did you put the azasite directly in your eye or just rub on your eye lids? And you used it for 6 months? Restasis seemed to make my eyes worse and I didn't feel a difference but I do know for some they feel it has helped. I had high hopes when I started using it but it really doesn't seem to do much for me. I only used the azasite for 2 weeks one time and didn't see much difference.

I had Lasik 9 months ago and was put on Azasite almost immediately after. They told me to put a drop in each eye, shut my eyes and go to sleep. It stung for a bit but otherwise it was fine for me. I didn't see any improvement in my eyes, though, so the doc added Lotemax to the mix and gave it to me 4x a day. It didn't help but it didn't seem to hurt in any major way except that I swore everytime I put it in my eye it broke up my tear film and the balance I had going for me. At around 2-3 months out I wanted to get off Lotemax so he suggested I taper down from Lotemax and replace with Restasis. The Restasis didn't burn at all, it actually felt great in my eyes. After a week passed however my eyes were HORRIBLE. Literally woke up one day and my eyes got worse and worse for about a week until I read on line here to try to stop the Restatsis and you should be able to see relief within 24 hrs if that's what the problem was. Indeed. I stopped immediately and within a day or so my eyes felt better. Not great, but better. It took me another two weeks to taper off the Lotemax and now I'm off of it all. I don't want to go back to any of it! If I were to, it would be Azasite since it didn't hurt me. A couple of months after that fiasco I had some bad days as well but I also had good days. I think I've had better days now lately as well so you definitely can get better after pouring this stuff in your eyes. I was afraid I had done permanent damage, but I don't think so. I have a feeling it just takes our dry eyes longer to build back up a healthy tear film. It will get better. Please believe in that.
