  • Tobradex Prescribed without diagnosis

Hi. This is only my 2nd post - Here is my history: Im a contact lens wearer (24 years) I have never had any problems with my eyes until about 3 weeks ago. While at work my left eye became red & bloodshot - I work in a NICU so they immediatly sent me to the doctor to rule out pink eye. My opthamologist told me that my left contact needed replaced & that is was covered in protein. I threw it out & put a new one in!

I went on a 6 day vacation from work & didnt have any other eye problems during that time. When I returned to work, my problems started again but also in my right eye. The draft at work was especially bothersome to my eyes & my symptoms were only noticeable at work & for a few days after my shifts. After my shifts, I had a two day recovery (light sensitivity & red painful eyes). I went back to my opthamolgist & she said my corneas were Extremely dry! She prescribed Tobradex 4 times a day for 10 days!! So far I feel 100% better - my eyes look normal and white again! Im just wondering what the problem is? I wanted a diagnosis! The meds are working & am so happy about that but I wanted to know what caused this? Im putting my contacts back in after 10 days & am left to wonder if my problems were caused be my contacts or my environment or something more serious??
My eye dr didnt eloborate or even guess what might be causing the discomfort. Im just hopeful that after my 10 day course of drops my problems wont return?
Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated!! Thanks
