  • dry eyes with excessive tearing

Hi everyone, is there anyone here who has dry eyes but also excessive tearing? It really looks as if I am crying all the time. I've been to various eye specialists and they just tell me to try various brands of artificial tears but I'm thoroughly fed up with going to them just to hear the same old thing every time. I've been through a whole range of artificial tears but without success. I now have blepharitis which I'm pretty sure is caused by all this tearing.

    Hi marianne,

    http://www.bostoneyepain.org/chaos-c...y-eye-disease/

That site has some good articles about it. It could be that your problem is due to disfunctional nerves... don't know. They would be releasing pain signals when they shouldn't. For sure my problem, at least in part, is due to it.

Hi Bakunin, thank you for your reply. The article is very interesting but I don't think it applies to my problem. I'll just carry on trying different ways to 'dry' my eyes. There is one thing that works and that is tobradex. When I use that then my eyes dry up but of course you can only use tobradex for a few days otherwise it raises eye pressure.

YES-- I have had this problem on and off for over 8 years. Recently, my Left EYE started tearing last Nov. Went to different eye docs..was told it's Dry eye…one put me on restasis..which i used for only 3 days ( couldn't take the burning). I also developed blepharitis and eye lid was puffy, swollen. eye was red..i just looked a mess!!!
Anyway..I decided to go back to this ocular surgeon who i saw in 2006 when again i had excessive tearing. He irrigated the tear ducts back then and the tearing stopped. I hesitated this time bed. he no longer accepts my insurance.

So in 15 minutes he determined that my left tear duct was the size of a pin hole and he couldn't even irrigate it. So he performed a punctuoplasty and inserted a stent which i just had removed on Wed. Tearing is very minimal now and i don't live with a tissue in my hand. So please find out if your tear duct is blocked. Hope this is helpful!
