  • Help finding glasses/sunglasses: Extreme photosensitivity, Lupus, Sjorgren's, etc

    Hi,

I need help from professionals finding out my options for glasses. I'm over-due for new ones and I've just been piling on the disposable sunglasses you get when you have your eyes dilated for nearly everything anymore. My cornea specialist mentioned two, what seem like different approaches--either very blue/dark blue lenses or blue-blocking polarized lenses. Another thing thrown into the mix: I know I have a lot of trouble with nighttime, lights and edges (chromatic aberration?,) but last night when I walked into a bookstore I used to work at the intense over-head lighting made me feel like I didn't have my glasses on *at all,* everything was so strangely blurry. I realize whatever glasses I'll get will need to be able to protect my eyes from all angles--top, bottom, sides...only, this is my first time looking for something like this and I don't know what brands or what to look for, even what might be out there and what mightn't.

Here's a bit of my medical history (in the event that that helps...) I'm 37 and I've been medically disabled for a decade (next year.) I have extreme photosensitivity linked with about 10 full-blown autoimmune conditions, including RA, very, very photosensitive Lupus (any kind of light *burns* me and I look like I've had boiling water thrown on me as my skin swells,) and severe Sjorgren's (in the last few months I've had my punctum--both upper and lower--cauterized. I have *very* viscous tears that dry quickly, so it's a bit like having salt flats for eyes.) I always wear a 6" wide-brimmed hat otherwise it's entirely too painful (both eyes and skin. The hat's in addition to a full kit of Solumbra sun-protective wear: jacket, scarf, face cover, gloves, etc.)

I've asked my Rheumatologist about the light sensitivity and the glasses and I think I kind of have even him stumped.

Also, living in the Phoenix, Az metro area doesn't help, I know : )

    I thank you so much,
    achyeyes
