  • Keratoconus patient-Dry Eye incident

    Hi everyone,

I'm Ali, an advanced Keratoconus patient. I've been suffering from this terrible eye condition for almost all my life. I was based in Iraq and coping with such condition was devastating.

I now live in the United States, and with the advancement in contact lenses, like Scleral lenses, and other state of the art technologies like Eye Print Pro I'm hoping my life will be easier.

For almost one and a half year I've been fitted with various types of contact lenses, RGP, Rose K, Synergyes Ultrahealth, Big Scleral lenses and other types of contact lenses. I was always suffering from contact lenses intolerance because of a temporal Pinquecula that gets irritated whenever contact lens rests on it. so my journey of fitting with good enough lens was very difficult. That's until recently I was fitted with special type of Scleral lenses called OneFit which finally addresses some of the issue I was facing with wearing the lenses.

Couple of days ago I was running, and I was wearing the left lens in my eye(I usually wear one lens in one eye), and a sweat entered my eye and I couldn't rub it because of the lens. After that, the portion of the white eye where the sweat accumulated got irritated and felt gritty and scratchy. I stopped wearing the lens for a couple of days and the symptoms of irritation and scratchiness were alleviated but I felt something changed in my eye. Now when I wear the lens I experience irritation, redness, and discomfort on that specific region.

I was hoping for some feedback and how to deal with such situation.

    Thanks a lot

That sounds nasty. Could you see your eyecare specialist and get the eye checked? I'm not a doctor, but when I damaged my eye I was told to expect three months for it to heal, so it is possible that there's a sore spot on your eye that hasn't healed yet. The only other thing I might suggest is asking them to check the sclera lens. If if was scratched, damaged, or distorted it could aggravate the eye every time it is on there, which might explain the pain when you wear it.

I hope you can find a solution quickly. It sounds extremely painful, and you have my sympathy.

Thanks a lot Keely, I'm going to see my Dr this week, I was extremely discouraged and miserable because it took me years to finally find a good enough Scleral lenses after years and years of discomfort, irritation and extremely poor vision. I hope it will heal with the upcoming months.

Thank you again for your nice words.

      all the best
