I can't answer your question but the research is intriguing. If it is new I am sure it differs though.

This research is about identifying the lipid components of meibum. At most, it will result in better artificial tears, but it doesn't help the understanding of our disease and curing the disease.

Here's a bigger breakthrough in dry eye research imo:

It confirms that MGD is probably an auto-immune disease, and that immunosuppressants are perhaps the correct approach to the disease.
