  • Dry eyes and miserable

    Hi Everyone,
This site is great. I was looking for help with my dry eyes as its driving me crazy... I have been suffering with dry eyes (my right one is worse) for years but I seem to have attacks when its worse than normal, again my right eye gives me the most problems, I suffer with sensitivity to light, they water alot and i get this stabbing like pain, oh I also suffer from Hayfever which causes allergies with my eyes. My optician has cofirmed that my eyes are dry and he can see the dry spots on my right eye. I do wear contact lenses (daily disposables) when my eyes are feeling ok, I try to wear my glasses but I am being vain I know, but I dont like to wear them as I feel like a dawk in them...
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can alleviate the pain and dryness in my eyes when they are having an episode? I am 37, in good health, I have not seen a doctor, but have seen an ophthalmologist. Do I need to see my general doctor? I take on a daily basis Flax seed oil, Fish oil and use ointment at night and various drops during the day. I do find that hot compresses help a little. I must admit I am a cronic eye rubber, bad I know and I do sit on my hands.... It seems like such a trivial thing when you say you have dry eyes, but it makes me feel so miserable when they are playing up, does anyone else feel this way?? Sorry this is such an essay, but if anyone can offer me any advice I would be so grateful.
    Many Thanks
    Deb.

    Hello Deborah

I see you are in Orlando, this is where I spend time in winter usually and I found there a dry eyes specialist who is pretty good, very kind, know how to listen . He has time usually to spend with his patients. Maybe you should go see him for advise. He will probably check you for blepharatis as it is a little his motto, but he may be right as blepharatis seems to be present in most DE cases. I can give you his name if you contact me with a private message, as I don't know if leaving names for doctors is allowed on the forum. He is true ophtalmologist, which is more than optician. You could also see a general doctor and be tested for the different causes of DE, at least it would help you rule out major diseases.
    Good luck to you

      Hello Deborah,

Welcome and I (all of us, actually) empathize with your dry eye pain. It can totally consume one's life, if we let it. Keep researching through this forum and you will find many helpful tips on dry eyes, as well as meeting a wealth of very kind, intelligent and empathetic friends. If you have not tried Restasis yet, I'm hoping your ophthalmologist may try that with you soon. It really seems to have helped me (along with my regular routine of instilling 'Refresh Plus' eye drops over and over and over again, warm compresses, prayers, blinking, etc.). Today I'm having an okay day so far with the eyes, so I should count my blessings.

Hello Katia, as I live in Melbourne, I would love to have the name of the Dr. you are referring to. I have a fantastic ophthalmologist, but dry eyes is not her main practice at this time. I'll be emailing you shortly!

Nice surprise to see that you live in Melbourne, this is in fact exactly where I stay when I am in Florida. But I lived in Orlando for many years and still go there quite often to see my friends. I'll be happy to give you this Dr name when I get your email. How do you cope with the sun there????? Have a nice day.
