I found clinicas soothe the best. Sorry i cant be of more help. Im the same with artificial tears- they dont really help. and they certainly dont allow me to live life normally.

You could try plugs but if you only have evaporative dry eye they probably wont help. They are helpful for those who are aqueous deficient, because they keep the aqueous tears on the eye- but they will still evaporate just as fast. You will probably find your eyes are wetter but not more comfortable.

But it is worth a try, we have limited options in the UK, so we have to take what we can get.

    Have you tried hot compresses?

        Hi Kate

I'm sorry that you are having problems finding a suitable drop. I don't want to make you feel any more depressed but this seems to be pretty much the norm i.e. finding something that suits YOU.

The pain is something that gets me down too. Sazy mentioned compresses, are you using them? Lid hygiene is very important - so you will have to be very careful if you want to use make-up.

I see you haven't got Ocumed 0.2% hyaluronate on your list; if you want to try some, send me your address by private email and I can let you have a few of mine. I bought them a few months ago and they do not suit me. They are individual vials, without preservative.

It would be so sad if this stopped you from doing a dog grooming course.

            hiya

ye i do hot compresses and clean then twice a day more if i can but its just making the time to keep doing it.
so frustrating cuz i use drops then there still dry and i just dont know how to get relief from it but then ive realised i dont think i will and thats whats hard to deal with that this is for life but i know theres so many worse things you can have and i undertsand that but its a huge thing to actually deal with and im really scared incase i scar or scratch them thats what freaks me out.

well ive just orderd hyabak and vismed from the dry eye store as is it true the higher percent of sodium hyaluronte you get the better?

              Hello fed up kate,

Have you tried the drops available from the Dry Eye Shop? I use NutraTear a couple of times per day (can't use it with contact lenses) and I believe it helps my eye health and tear quality. I don't like Dwelle as much, it is much more viscous and tends to leave whitish deposits on the roots of my eyelashes.

With my contacts, my favorite is Ciba Vision Aquify. I also occaisonally use Eye-Cept, which is in single use vials and has no preservative. It is very soothing and does a great job of rewetting, but it is not viscous enough to use when inserting my RGPs.

I tried Systane in the no-preservative single use vials, but felt it did not help. It has something called Guar Gum in it.

              Good luck,

              Lynne

Hi Katie, I've ordered some Dwelle from the Dry Eye shop, but the shipping is high, hence I've ordered Tranquilleyes too.

I generally use viscotears and hypromellose at the moment, which work quite well. I prefer the viscotears.

                    hey nimmykins

                    hey
have you tried alot of drops then only i spoke to my doctor today and he said even thou im using persevative free ones they can still contain ingrediants that can irritate so im worried that because im swapping and changing drops that im causing more damage,i tried systane a few days ago and swear my eyes seem drier if thats possible and really regret trying them now.what are your symptoms if you dont mind me asking.

                      Hello Kate,

Over use of any / all drops can cause drying, because they cannot supply the same complex mixture as in natural tears. I try to avoid using drops during the day - I figure if my eyes feel dry, it's time to take a break from whatever I am doing.

Different drops are good for comfort without contact lenses, others provide better rewetting of the RGP lenses for better wearing comfort. I don't have good luck predicting which drops will work for me, so I try new ones when they become available.

I used Systane in bottles with preservative, and also in single-use no preservative vials. I used it when inserting my RGPs, and also as a rewetting drop during the day. I wouldn't say I had "symptoms" but Systane did not provide the comfort that I was expecting.

I have had much better luck with Ciba Aquify, both when inserting RGPs and as a rewetting drop. When not wearing my RGPs, the best drops for me are NutraTear.

In the last year I tried:
                      - Zatidor - OTC allergy drop - very drying. I far prefer prescription Patanol or Pataday.
                      - Blink - I prefer Aquify.
                      - Soothe - can't use with RGPs. It is milky / semi opaque when first inserted. I prefer NutraTear because it doesn't just sooth my eyes, it seems to promote healing.
                      - Eye-Cept - great drop when I need a bit of moisture while wearing my RGPs.
                      - Dwelle - thicker than NutraTear, left gunk on my eyelashes and lid margins, hard to clean off. I prefer NutraTear.

                      Good luck,

                      Lynne

I just thought I'd add my voice to those that are saying drops don't seem to help me much. I'm sure they do for lots of people, but for me they've never seemed to be the answer. It might feel partially better for about 5 minutes, but much of my problem seems to be inner eyelid irritation/inflammation - and the drops don't help this, and I think may even make it worse. I'm using Wiley-X goggles much more these days (though fogging is annoying).

That said, I still use drops sometimes, and I'm open to trying more than the 9 or so I've already used.

By the way, you can get systane in the UK (I've got some). Assuming not against forum rules to say this, I got them from http://www.dry-eyes.co.uk/acatalog/Systane.html

i can understand that drops can make things worse but the only reason i try keep using them like every 2 hrs is because im really scared of damaging my eyes, bcause i think if i dont use drops and keep them moisturised then there gona get scratched and thats what is getting me down and im freaked out about it,sounds daft i know but every second of every day im thinking that.

                            Hi Kate

I don't mean to imply you shouldn't be using drops - just that I'm not sure how much drops really help me. Most of us here know that preservative laden drops on a regular basis are bad so we avoid them, but the PF ones really help some, and many of us feel they help at times.

It's very much about the individual - it's really a case of trying things for a time to gauge how useful they are to you.

                            Good luck!

                              thank you for that
just dont wana use a drop for a long time if there gona make things worse but like you say i do use p.free ones so surely they cant be that bad.
                              thanks for your help
