  • Bloodshot eyes all the time!!

    Hi everyone!
I am a 31 year old girl of europe, i suffer from red eyes for plus minus 10 years. I went to see 15 different eyedocs maybe but they can't help me. I dont know what do do but i dont want to live like this no more. when i was younger i thougt i was ugly.
now i know i was so beautiful , because i had white eyes, and that is all i want in life.

I have made things worse myself. I was sent away by so many doctors that i began using vasoconstrictors. now it made things worse.
I was also tested for allergies but have none. But i blame the doctors for making my eyes worse, they should helped me when i needed them. How can you ignore a person who is in pain. I am miserable!
I went to a doctor in Germany, i have to pay him 200 dollars per visit and he will give me cyclosporin. I hope it reduces the inflammation. He said it was keratoconjunctivitis sicca, wrong i am positive it is ocular rosacea, sometimes my face burns a bit.
I have no job anymore because of my eyes , it has taken my life.
I have to say that i can use a computer for a long time, i dont experience dry eyes at night. I mean i do not have a gritty feeling.
They are inflamed and they burn a little bit.
Doctors never told me about TBUT so i dont know the numbers.

Here are treatments i have done so fare: doxy( 200mg), lubricant eyedrops ( make my eyes dryer), bloodserum eye drops, warm compresses, fish oil, steroid drops.

i take lots of vitamins but i do not know what for!
Is there someone who lives like me here?
Do you suffer and cry all the time like me?
Who wants to live like this.

I pray for me and every person in my situation, also for everyone on this site.
    Sorry for my English

lgive thanks to God you don't have dry eyes with a red eye. it is burning hell in earth.if red eye is the only issue then u should use tinted sunglass when you away from home.I understand ur pain but u also think that your thousand times better than million of people who have severe dry eyes.they cant die or live.continuously searching for positive thinks.I am only 26 and fighting with both blood cancer and severe dry eyes due to transplant.my skin iis now charcoal black aafter bone marrow transplan but I am still living.tobviously you should not be fraustrated. there might be lot of good eye hospital around Europe. I am living in india now and you will be amazed to know that there are no moisture chamber glass or serum eye drop for my severe dry eyes.
Hang in there.sooo many people are fighting like you.

Hopingforfuture - Do you get much pain, is this what made you leave stop working? I just ask because my drop is extremely difficult for me to the point I am considering leaving employment, thought I love my job. I do not have bloodshot eyes that often but my eyelids get very red. Like Niaz my eyes burn so badly I can't describe the pain. It keeps me from sleeping properly and I'm completely useless after 5pm when it's at it's worst.

I think you need to see another eye doc so he can test your TBUT and do a Schirmer's test. Ocular rosacea can cause dry eyes. My mild facial rosacea started at the same time as my ocular rosacea. I have the diagnosis of keratoconjunctivitis sicca, MGD and mild anterior blepharitis plus dry spots on cornea.

Do you get relief from warm compresses?

        thank u for answering.
I am sorry , i am new to this site so i think i did something wrong, i will try to reply again
to Niaz . i don't feel the gritty feeling when i don't use eyedrops, otherwise i feel trapped behind my own eyelids. I have great discomfort. Burning, eyepain behind the eyes, fluorescent lights are not good for me. airconditioning is hell too.
But the main thing is the inflammation.
i find it difficult to look in the mirror too. I'm sorry maybe its superficial but i reather hide the condition. cant stand the questions.
I hope you find relief, and get better soon. I will pray for you, i dont know you but i care.

        To lizlou,
I dont feel much relief from hot compresses...
I had my own nail and beautysalon, i could not work anymore because discomfort, depression...
I am Lucky my parents understand and they let me live with them for free.
I hope you get better also

Hi hopingforfuture. I'm responding because I saw many similarities with myself. I'm a 31-year old man in New Zealand, and first noticed my eyes looking bloodshot 11 years ago. I have been to many eye specialists. Been diagnosed with blepharitis/MGD/dry eye. I went to an ophthalmologist 2 months ago. He said I also had superficial punctate keratitis. I don't experience any pain, but I just wish my eyes were white again. I use computers a lot, but I believe I got the symptoms from using Accutane, and then vasoconstrictors. You should see the amount of supplements I'm taking at the moment eg probiotics, omega 3, L-Arginine, Taurine, turmeric, milk thistle (apparently I have liver damage). You see, I've become obsessed trying to find something that helps. There are some things that I find do help. NAC, and a foam cleanser eg Ocusoft, Sterilid ( Im trying Ocusoft at the moment because even though the tea tree oil in the Sterilid is perhaps more effective in combating the bacteria (demodex?), I notice small permanent veins in the conjunctiva afterwards which really gets me down. So for the last 4 months I have been trying to do a warm compress before using Ocusoft. For the warm compress, I heat a jug, and put my head over it with a towel over my head. I do this for a few minutes, and massage the eyelids with my fingers . Then I use the Ocusoft in the shower afterwards for a minute or so. I have also just purchased coriander which apparently is good in an eyewash. And staying away from caffeine and alcohol helps.

Hi Sleeks, yes indeed we have very similar problems, i also had acne when i was young, but i never took accutane. My problem was solved with birthcontrol pills Diane 35. I guess signs were there already. then the stupid vasoconstrictors came ... and ruined my f****** life. but we took them for a reason too, dont you think?

They should not sell them over the counter anymore!!! Ocusoft doesn't exist here. nore does restasis. I am willing to try IPL but have to travel for that too. What is that demodex thing actually... how can you tell if you have that? i dont see crusts but it is possible ...
Thank u very much for the good advice!!!
Funny that there are so many people with the same problem around the globe!

hmmm, one of the side effects of birth control pills is dry eyes… If you use it for acne maybe you should try something else.

OcuSoft is for eyelid hygiene. There are many good products for eyelid hygiene and blepharitis in Europe (and in my opinion even better than OcuSoft):

preservative-free Blephagel cleansing gel, Blephasol micelle solution, Blephaclean wipes, BlephaCura liposomal solution. You can try one of those. But it’s not a cure for red eyes, it’s for lid hygiene, and if nothing it’s definitely refreshing!

Don’t have high hopes for Restasis, I had been using it for a long time and it didn’t help at all. It might help someone but not everyone… There’s no magic cure at the moment.

You have to try live your life even if it’s far from perfect. Otherwise you stop living and you’ll feel miserable all the time. Don’t give up, there’s still hope!

“Always remember the proverb: "This too shall pass." Your negative feelings won't last forever, there's a light at the end of every tunnel. It might not happen today or tomorrow, but you'll feel better eventually.”

I was a pharmacist and as far as I know only steroids and cyclosporine can control inflammation. but it takes time. I was a chain smoker before I caught cancer.but I quit it.it can cause serious eye inflammation include dry eye.
                  To lizlou
