  • Just been diagnosed with blepharitis....could do with some advice

    hiya everyone,

this is a wonderful forum and i hope someone can help me with my eye problems.

I have been diagnosed with dry eye/blepharitis

My job is mainly using computers for admin work and I believe this can make the condition a lot worse.

Now I'm aware that I need to use the pc as less as possible and if i do use it, to blink more, but is there

anything i can tell my employer to get for me, so that I can place it over the screen to help?

I was thinking along the lines of a tint screen?

    Thanks again

    Hello,

I too have recently been diagnosed with blepharitis(i'm only 19)

I have to constantly use the computer because I take my college classes online, so here's what I have been doing recently that has been quite effective.

warm compress about 4x a day
    Occusoft wipes
    refresh optive artificial tears

and I have purchased a pair of glasses that have anti-glare coating.

Before my eyes were constantly sore, irritated, and covered with veins. The veins are still there but I have been experiencing much less irritation and my eyes feel much healthier than before. I wish you luck dude and update me on your progress.

Thanks very much for the help blade95. How much and where did you purchase the antiglare glasses from?

I purchased my glasses for around 235$ at an optical outlets near my house. The frames can be really cheap, but the lenses are where the high cost comes in. I'd highly recommend investing in a pair, as they make using the computer much easier.

It really sucks that there's no definitive cure for blepharitis/dry-eye but using these glasses and treatment makes my situation alot easier. Good luck of course, and feel free to ask for help or advice.

          Thanks so much blade95,

I got the flux app and it has worked wonders as it's less strainful to watch the monitor screen.

Unfortunately, I can't afford the glasses (at least for now).

To complicate problems, I'm not even sure if they have diagnosed me correctly.

Although my symptoms are similar to blepharitis, I'm now thinking it might be something else altogether, because:-

          1. It's only my right eye
          2. My right eye and cheeks are having muscles spasms and the eye lid is being forced to close.
          3. I only have the burning sensation and water at night...during the day no water and only a small amount of burning, although my eyes are tired and the spasms are continuous.

Blepharospasm? Bear in mind you might have more than one thing going on (and one can lead to another). Blepharitis is common with or without other problems.

Can you describe all your symptoms and their timing a little more clearly?

Strategies to protect the eyes while on the computer are always good no matter what but... if your symptoms are entirely at night, I'd be focusing on addressing them at night (in addition of course to whatever bleph treatment you've been advised to do). Bear in mind that no matter what it is, it's not uncommon for only one eye to be affected or to be worse. Also doctor might actually see signs in both eyes but you could have symptoms in just the one. - Night symptoms can have a lot of possible causes from anterior or posterior blepharitis to poor eyelid closure at night to recurrent erosions to good old fashioned garden variety dry eye.

              Thanks for your reply Rebecca.

A bit of history of my problems...
I have a history of sleep problems, where I tend to wake up in the middle of the night, finding it hard to go back to sleep. This could be due to hypothyroid. I've had many episodes of conjunctivitis in the past, which as far as I know were cleared with medication. I can't exactly remember, but lets put it this way, my eyes have been watering/burning/stinging/feeling of pressure at the back (especially the right eye) for the best part of a year. But when I wake up in the morning, although I have swelling to my right eye due to excessive tears during the previous night, I within a few hours recover with no problems other than minor burning/tired sensation.

              In the last 1-2 months...
Right eye has got so bad, that there is a lot of excessive tear water (only at night - EVERYNIGHT!). Seen an eye specialist approx 3-4 weeks ago and that's when I have been diagnosed with blepharitis. But 2 weeks ago, my right eye lid and lower eye bag started twitching/pulsing and this has got worse with more stronger spasms, that I can now feel along the right-side of my face (cheeks) upto the upper corner of my lip. These spasms calm down during the night, but will start of again either by morning.

From the above information I've provided, I would say that 80-90% of my issues are at night-time.

I have a lot questions and worries...

Is the twitching a temporary onset of the blepharitis or is this permanent?
Does this sound like blepharitis or blephorspasm or both?
Could it be that I still have conjuctivis, even though I don't have any crusting of the eyes?
