  • Smart Punctual Plug

    Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with "smart punctal plug"? This is a plug which sits inside the punctal and not visible from outside. I have this plug and my eye is too watery. I get frequent allergies in this eye due to excessive watering and also lots of bruises and sore eyelids due to continuous wiping of the tears.

Has anyone got this type of plug removed?

    TIA

I have just had they inserted into my lower punctual because I kept rubbing the others out. I'm told you cant rub these out.

I aware they can cause problems because they can't be seen and the only way to remove them is to flush them out with saline.

Sometimes they have to be removed by surgery.
Rebecca Petris has experience with them.

Googling "smartplug complications" is a bit revealing I'm afraid

Plenty of people have had them flushed out successfully with saline.

      Have they checked for canaliculitis?

If you're having ongoing issues it seems like it would be reasonable to ask to have them irrigated out.

If you need plugs, I'd stick with either dissolvables, or external plugs that are fitted carefully to the right size

Is it that easy to drain out? My corneal specialist refused to touch it and said that I have to see an ocuplastic surgeons to get this plug removed.

An optometrist tried to irrigate the lacrimal duct to flush out the plug but no luck. I'm quite worried now
