  • Any tips on how to relieve my biggest issue?

    Hi All,

i am new here and have been battling dry eyes for 4 months. I’m only 31 and am kinda getting depressed because of the fact that there is a good chance that this won’t go away anymore.

my main issue is that my eyes are really really dry in the morning. For about the first hour they feel like there is sand in them.

after that, they kinda return back to normal and I can go without drops all day. Only time that I can’t do that is if I wear contacts, after that they also feel crappy in the daytime for a couple of days.

i need your advice on how to deal with the morning issues. I have tried putting gel drops in at night which gives me very little relief in the morning. Also tries vita pos, duratears and lipovic but they make my eyes feel greasy all day and that’s not comfortable eather. Any tips?

Have you tried ointment at night? I prefer Systane PM as it dissolves nicely. Good luck!

In addition to the ointment, try wearing night goggles or bubble bandages while sleeping to seal the night air out. Many people sleep with their eyes ever so slightly open. I use EyeSeals 4.0, and when I don’t wear them my eyes are much drier in the morning and rest of the day. This forum’s Dry Eye Shop has the various options with good summaries and often videos from Rebecca on the products:

Also, if your condition persists, you might try scleral lenses instead of contact lenses. Sclerals increasingly are used to help dry eye patient manage their symptoms and get relief with the dome shape lenses covering the eyeballs with moisture all day. I’m assuming from your user name you might be in or near the Netherlands, so am including a post from a few years back from someone in the Netherlands who ultimately found help with sclerals from a local soecialist. Maybe you can reach out to him on that or advice on doctors he saw there.

If you are located elsewhere, there are scleral specialists throughout the world and you could probably get a recommendation from someone here in the forum or your eye doctor.
