My first post...I'd like to share my awful experience of the pasr 2 years with Blepharitis and MGD... I am a 57 years old.women post menopausal living in New Zealand so far from the rest of the world and it's resources,we find it often necessary to improvise. Here we have on offer as treatment for MGD little more than the suggestion to use a hot facecloth and in my case, that's if you can get your doctor to even recognize you have it. Since going through menopause I have had Anterial Blepharitis and MGD I have received no real help or even recognition for what has been a harrowing experience For 12 months I suffered first with seborrhea dermatitis in the hairline which then went to my eyebrows and then my lashes. Not presenting with the usual crusting at the base of the lashes my doctor prescribed only Cocoscalp which I was unable to use near my eyes so basically the Blepharitis went untreated for 12 months until it seem to get better going into the summer. I then went to my optometrist and asked for help in freeing up what I saw as ingrown lashes and which she was unable to see at all, however she did tell me all the meibomian glands were plugged or obstructed and gave me an hygiene program to follow which included wheat bag compresses and Sterilid washing and also identified I had NAG which I have since had a successful laser procedure to correct. It took me 2 hours of cleaning a day for 7 months to clean up my left eye, successfully freeing up the lashes I had perceived as ingrown but rather they were encased under a thickened layers of meibom, some laying across the greyline towards the eye some stuck to my cheek pulling the lower lid into an ectropic position at both inner and outer corners of the eye and criss crossing the cilia to the gland area like a zipper. Like putting on weight over a long period of time, I hadn't really noticed that my once beautifully long lashes had disappeared. Thank goodness I didn't attempt to clean the right eye till after the laser procedure as it was a long and sometime very painful 7 months. Then I began on the right eye which I had thought was not as bad but turned out to be so much worse. I had learned a few tricks when cleaning the left eye after much internet research, now knowing the melting point of the meibom which had to be at the least 45C. Bicarb of soda is a good one but by far the most soothing is coconut oil heated in an aromatherapy burner so as to remain at optimum temperature to melt away the 'concreation'. With every 2nd swipe of the cotton bud another lash would pop up from where it had been stuck down for I can't really say how long as I have suffered from eye infections intermittently throughout my life, had pterygiums removed from both eyes in my late teens and always suffered from Chronic Dry Eye. I use to sleep on my stomach with the right side of my face squashed into the pillow but no more. As I began the process of cleaning the right eye the lashes weren't so much across the greyline however the lower lashes were stuck fast to my cheek, inside corner of the lower lid ectropic as well as the lashes both upper and lower on the inside corner adhered fast to the bridge of my nose and upper lid again criss crossing zipping both closed together at the caruncle. I have been seen by several professionals throughout this whole debacle with little to no response to my pleas for help in freeing up the lashes from what I can only describe as Super Glue like meibom which I have been producing for who knows how long, I have even failed to have anyone other than my partner agree with what I see in the mirror. When dry, the meibom is not visible and my skin appears normal concealing all underneath but when wet it becomes shiny, slimy of an opaque bluish grey color, becoming transparent making the lashing viable and it's thick and extremely sticky and coats my face from the upper inside corner of my eye down my cheek to below my nose like a glacier. It's no wonder I have MGD with the glands being all blocked or obstructed and I am determined to get things back to normal once the untangled lashes allow my eye to open unsticking the glands so things can flow normally again. I have tried everything including 50/50 ethanol and water to remove it without quick remedy. I am pleased to say though that I have managed to free up the right eye now but only after going to the most drastic measures yet using a cosmetic salacylic acid facial peel which broke down the meibom and melted or freed up the lashes, unfortunately not without causing soft tissue trauma to the skin on my face but after presenting with what my doctor saw as like burns to the face I have now been given a coarse of Doxine100 Tabs and a tube of Fucithalmic. I keep saying I'm not sure how long my eyes have been stuck up as I now discover I have the deep set eyelids I have always desired instead of the rather squinty eyes with draping lids that I have had?? I don't want to believe MGD is a chronic incurable disorder and hope to be the one to prove it but as I've not even been successful enough in convincing any professional yet as to my plight, I have yet to have even a swab test taken of the meibom. MGD is a huge problem for a lot of people from what I gather on the internet and had I not had the pain threshold I do I feel I would still be suffering. I researched and researched the internet for a good method of cleaning the meibom off my eyes and face and came up with nothing. Again I think the heated coconut oil in an aromatherapy burner (always finger check the temp before putting to eye) is the best. It's soothing, it's has antimicrobial, anti fungal and antibiotic properties and even if it gets in your eye it feels really good, my partner and I also use it as a personal lubricant it's wonderful. I wouldn't recommend the salacylic peel, although I'd still be squinting if I hadn't taken that leap* winking

An update added to my post "This remedy is An Oldie but a Goodie"
I've been at it "Grooming" now for coming up 2 years...it has all but consumed me and don't think I would have started on this path had I known how long and hard it was going to be...in the beginning I had huge results, watching skin unfold in front of the mirror as I worked...so excited I even contacted Daniel Laberge in Canada telling him all and promising to help him launch his theory with evidence of my own success...his answer to me was...' you are taking on the impossible at my age of 59 that it was something we need to teach our young for it to be easily obtained...a bit like wearing sunblock and hats to avoid skin cancer...he told me he had been grooming for 13 years and was only recently enjoying having the skin of his brows unfolded to the natural position...patience not being a virtue I process I have worked excessively some days for hours at the process of 'Grooming' my favorite saying, "I'm nearly there" and now I am nearly there...I've unfolded the wrinkles which had creased up the skin around my eyes enveloping my brows and lashes while constricting the opening of the glands...not to mention the blocking of my entire lacrimal system from the skin on my nose having folded through the constriction put upon it from the nose pieces of my glasses...Daniel Laberge's "Skin Folding Theory" is the answer to so many medical problems it needs to be known but like everything that sounds to simple and has no advantage to the pharmaceutical industry it has been impossible for him to convince the medical professionals of his findings and received nothing but ridicule being called a charlatan...everything he claims on his site I have seen evidence of in the mirror and no longer suffer from Dry Eye with the added bonus of having very few wrinkles, dark spot and freckles all but gone even moles have smoothed out...it's been a hard journey for me being 59 years old and not a girly girl a landscape gardener for most of my working life with a few scars which makes the skin fold up around them even more...I know it sounds strangely simple but it's the answer...at least look into it.
