blepharitis is a chroic inflammation of the eye lids which can cause the membomain glands to block or produce a poor quality of oil or quantity many factors can cause this condition bacteria probably the most common among others the oils are essential to keep the tear film healthy any defect in the membomain glands will cause ocular surface disease also known as ocular surface disruption this will lead to ocular surface symptoms sore dry gritty eyes mucus etc i do believe this condition is poorly understood and does not recieve any respect from opthalmic doctors as a really hard conditon to live with .. my heart does go out to everyone dealing with ocular surface symptoms from all kinds of eye conditions.....
