  • New treatment: betadine wash.

So my MGD is not really responding to the usual treatments. My eye doctor said that for advanced cases, they are trying betadine eyelid scrubs. This arose from her work with patients that have artificial corneas. They use diluted betadine to "wash" that artificial cornea. Some of THOSE patients were commenting that it also helped their blepharitis. So she is trying it on some patients with problematic MGD.

It's 50% betadine and 50% saline. She puts Gentel Gel in the eyes first to "protect" the cornea, mixes the betadine and saline togeter in a small container, and uses a q-tip dipped in the solution to "brush" the lids. It stings quite a bit...but she said that some of her patients are reporting good results.

I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere. I just had it done today, so will have to see on the efficacy.
Working...
