  • Anyone seen the lipid in their tear film?

I've seen high magnification pictures of my tear film and oil floating on top before, but I didn't realise I could actually see this with the naked eye and a mirror.

I have a 12X hand mirror that I bought for looking at my eyes/MGs and if I look near a window, use the 12X mirror, position the reflection of the window over my cornea and blink, I can see the oil float up over the highlighted area when my upper lid retracts. It's pretty cool.

Of course you need to bear in mind my meibum isn't exactly normal so I can't promise what a "normal" baseline is, and it's pretty limited in terms of what conclusions you can draw from the observation, but like I said - it's pretty cool.
