After five different eye doctors, a corneal specialist told me today that the meibomian glands in one eye are all completely blocked, and most of the glands in the other eye. I am taking doxy, using antibiotic ointment and compresses, doing expression and scrubs. Also, Restasis, TheraTears Nutrition, and just started flax oil. Today the doctor told me that the glands will never clear. My eyes have gotten better, but are far from being comfortable. I've been on the antibiotics less than a month. It seems I have adequate tears, and of course plenty of mucous.

For those of you with the same problem, how much better can I expect things to get, and how long does it take? I know the condition is probably chronic, but what does the doctor mean by "never clear"?
