I got silicone plugs put in the bottom punctum about 3 weeks ago to relieve DES and haven't noticed much of a change.
Before the plugs my eyes were really dry, felt very gritty, and they still feel like that afterwards. I've only had some relief in the past few days, my eyes still feel dry, but the grittiness and burning isn't as bad. But my eyes seem worse in the mornings, I wake up needing drops asap. And around my eyes gets very swollen and poofy and stays that way much of the day.
I previously had collagen puntal plugs and experienced relief almost immediately and was relieved to finally have moisture in my eyes. I expected much the same with the silicone, but have been left disappointed.
Should I give the plugs more time?
Should I consider another alternative? Might I have better luck with smart plugs or cautery?
Has anyone experienced similar? Either with the little relief or the puffy eyes?
Any thought/suggestions?
Thanks!
