I had temporary lower punctal plugs fitted (the ones that last a week) and have been experiencing tears running down my cheeks whenever I yawn or do anything that causes reflex tears. Now I am more than happy to live with this if the plugs turn out to help but I'm wondering a few things:
Do the permanent plugs cause more excess tearing than the temporary ones? I read somewhere that they do, but don't know if this is true.
Does this excess tearing mean I don't have an aqueous deficiency?
How often do the permanent plugs end up getting lost in the tear duct so they can't be removed? I am worried about this and was considering going with the 3 month temporary plugs because of this potential problem. I also wonder if given how often the "permanent" plugs fall out, 3 month temporary plugs might actually tend to last longer.
Thanks for your input.
