I have had Herrick punctal plugs placed in my lower punctum. Twice. The last time was Dec. 2001. The first time (Oct. '01) they stayed in only a couple of months.
I had epiphora immediately from having my ducts plugged. At first it was a relief to have some moisture in my eyes but in just a few short days, the tears burned and the corners of my eyes became irritated (mostly from dabbing at the tears).
I have had my tear ducts flushed to see if either of the plugs were still there of if they had 'fallen out'. One plug is gone, the left one remains. It is imbedded, isn't doing any good and cannot be flushed out.
Prior to having the Herrick's put in, I had collagen plugs in every configuration: uppers only, lowers only, all 4.
