  • My dry eye routine

I too suffer from dry eye. I did everything my eye doctor told me but after 3 corneal ulcers in the last six months, I decided to try to find more information on my own. After several days of searching the internet I decided on the following routine:

    1. Every morning I take a clean wash cloth and wet 2 corners with warm water. On the first corner I put a small amount of baby shampoo directly out of the bottle. Shampoo just the eyelash edges for approximately 1 minute. Then take the other wet corner and rinse it. Use a dry portion of the cloth to dry your eye. I do the entire procedure for each eye separately. After a few days of following this procedure I was completely free of grit feeling in my eye.

Following this process, I wet the entire washcloth with warm water and apply it as a compress over both of eyes for about 5 minutes.

    2. After the above procedure, I use the first artificial tear drops of the day. The artificial tears are repeated as needed. I generally use them every 3-4 hours. Many different brands of artificial tears are available and they do not give the same results. If you are not having satisfactory results with your current brand try, another product. Below is a web site containing a chart that lists most of the brands on the market and explains what you might try depending on your eye condition.

    3. At bedtime, I use an eye ointment. Several products are available in the market. I have had good luck with GenTeal night time ointment. Eye ointment is difficult to use because you are not supposed to touch the tip of the applicator to your eye, but a drop of the ointment will not fall off. I finally found a YouTube video that shows you how to do it easily. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before you put the eye ointment on your finger. Also be careful not to touch the tip of the tube to your finger. A little twist of the tube will release the ointment.

    4. Take one softgel of Flaxseed Oil 1000 mg every day. This is available at any drug store. Originally I tried taking Flaxseeds, but found that to be a horrible experience.

I have been doing the procedure described above everyday for 2 months and my eyes now feel normal. Actually, the eyes started to feel better after only a few days and have continually improved. I have even been able to read again, which I had not been able to do for months because of pain and poor eye sight.

I hope this helps you. Dry eye is a miserable condition and the eye doctors don’t seem to offer much that is really effective in preventing the condition.

I am a brand new user to this web site. I tried to look around, but if this information is not helpful or redundant I apologize in advance.
