  • Dry Eye, my story...

For me dry eye started back in 2000.

But first here is some history. Suffice it to say
I'm well over 40...and even older, but I dont want to say
    how old...lol.

Anyways, I've had severe eye problems since I was 5 years old.
My vision until recently was never better then 20/30, ever.
I had very thick glasses in both grade and high school. I grew up
always having problems seeing anything everywhere.

In 1998, I had, cataracts in both eyes, and both eyes
fixed. My eyeglass prescrpition finally looked and felt
somewhat like others, thin and very normal. Then
I had a disaster in my right eye, a retinal detachement,
and it moved very fast. So fast, it was too late for laser surgery.
I had to have sugery under the knife, and my eye surgeon fixed it
by using a scleral buckle. I also had a bubble put in with a very large
needle. I was in dire pain the Christmas of 2001.

I ended up with double vision, and severe dry eye. It took
several more prescriptions, and another specialist in
double vision to fit me with a prism. The prism works,
but he cant correct the problem 100%, so I'm left with some issues.
Driving at night is a big challenge.

Dry eye soon started after this, and got worse n' worse.
I also developed 3 or 4 nasty Iritus infections. I still
take a light steriod to keep my right eye from getting
infected again. Its in remission presently, and has been for
    while after adjusting my meds.

So, I'm a mess. Iritus infections, double vision, and severe
dry eye. I take Restasis 4 to 5x a day, All Rex 2x a day,
Xibrom 3x a day. I've found through trial n' error
that Optive works best for me in between. I had punctal
    plugs inserted 2 years ago.

My vision now isnt too bad, but I constantly have to
fight the dryness. I work as a programmer all day in front
of a computer, so my vision is my livelyhood.

I dont wish this on anyone, and after finding this forum
I think I have other people that know what it is to go
throught this on a daily basis.

    Thanks for reading.
