air purifiers help with indoor allergies?

does anyone use an air purifier for their allergies in their home.?? i have severe allergies to pollen, grass and trees.. and it seems to filter into my home badly on bad days...
i was wondering if anyone had used air purifiers and if so if they helped with outdoor allergies???
