  • Orange County Dry Eye Support Group meeting

Hi - My name is Judi Beatty and I am one of the three co-ordinators of the Orange County Dry Eye Support Group. We meet 5 times a years, have guest speakers who are usually doctors (and Rebecca) and our next meeting is in September 2009. At this meeting we will be discussing primarily about the use of scleral lenses as a treatment for chronic dry eyes. Our doctors who are speaking are Dr. Randal Wong (optometrist - dry eye specialist - who provides scleral lenses at $1,300) and Dr. Faris Ghosheh (opthalmologist and dry eye specialist). Both doctors are practicing in Mission Viejo, California.
The Orange County Dry Eye Group would very much like to change the protocol of chronic dry eye treatment to include the scleral lenses. Until now most doctors would only consider even suggesting scleral lenses to those patient who had corneal damage. The Boston Foundation for Sight (as I understand it) and Dr. Wong and Dr. Ghosheh all feel the scleral lense can be a life changing treatment for those with chronic dry eye that has not responded to standard dry eye treatment protocol. Although not every one is a candidate for this treatment those that are can receive up to 100% improvement with very few possible complications. For those of you who would like 1. a list of scleral lense doctors in the U.S 2. a list of the advantages and disadvantages of scleral lenses or 3. a copy of our meeting flyer and directions 4. a copy of our information sheet - please send me an e mail me at jbeatty99@sbcglobal.net . If you would like us to email you a copy of our support group meetings as they occur please send your e mail address.
We would sure appreciate your helping us to get the information out to as many doctors as possible that there is more to treating dry eyes than Restasis and punctal plugs.
    Blessing to you all. Judi
