  • Eye Exam: "Reversal Drops"

So, my eyes have been feeling GREAT this past week. Minimal redness, decreased swelling of lids, and I have been staying on top of the warm compresses. I have actually been able to wear contacts for a few hours with no side effects. Anyway, I had an eye appointment yesterday afternoon, so I could get fit for contacts that would better suit my eye shape. They go through the whole process, dialate the eyes, etc. No real redness (I checked in the mirror).

Then, at the very end, as I am standing up to go, the opthamologist says I have one more "reversal drop" to get. He puts these drops in my eyes, and they sting like nothing else. He walks out, I go to front desk to reschedule. When I go to the bathroom a few minutes later, my eyes are like neon red, like the color of apples. Even on my worst eye days they never look like that. I try putting non-preservative drops in to soothe them, but nothing helps. Even today they are still red (not AS red, but still look bad). I called, and the person on the phone said they were called Rev-Eyes, "reversal drops" to counter the effects of the dialation. I googled and found this: http://www.matossianeye.com/site/blo...sal-drops.html

I am so mad they used these drops. I could care less about dealing with a few extra hours of dilation effects. Instead I feel like my eyes are back to square one. They are red, the lid margins are bright red and swollen. I am worried that these drops have hit a 'reset' button and now my eyes are the nightmare they used to be. I even found this NY Times article saying the drop was taken off the market in the USA. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/31/sc...-dilation.html

Could anyone advise me as to whether the side effects of this drug are permanent? Or if my eyes will recover to what they were before the eye exam?
