Hey.
I was diagnosed with gpc about 6 months ago. More severe in the left eye. I was wearing 3 monthly soft contact lenses, which after a while the left eye would get sore and irritate the gpc causing vision to blur and my eyelid to look inflamed.
I have since been fitted with some RGP contact lenses which i have been wearing for about 2 weeks, but also been wearing my soft lenses sometimes during the break in phase as i found the RGP's too uncomfortable for a full days work (so would switch to soft). I have a few questions:
1. The doctor refused to give me a steroid eyedrop to combat the GPC, and said the RGP's should eventually eliminate the GPC in both eyes. Is this the case?
2. How long roughly should it take to become comfortable with RGPs? Right now i can go about 6 hours before they feel quite itchy and uncomfortable, in the left eye moreso than the right.
3. If i wear my soft lenses maybe once a week, is this enough to reset all progress in the reduction of GPC and just put me back to square one?
Since wearing the RGPs and cutting down soft lens wear my eyes are definitely wetter, i used to wake up in the morning with very dry eyes which hurt to blink, now that happens much less often. Vision is better and the GPC seems less noticeable when removing the contact lenses.
I have no Bleph and my eye dryness is minimal.
One other thing worth noting, My mum had put my contact lens in her eye a few weeks back by accident (we both wear them) and she said her eye was uncomfortable for 4 days afterwards. For this reason she has questioned whether the problem is bacterial. Could this be the case? Or is she just talking nonsense.
Been wearing RGP lenses all of this week and they are getting fairly comfortable but i can still feel some soreness on the top left eyelid (where GPC has been the worst)
Any advice on what to do from now would be appreciated.
