  • What is the significance of prominent/enlarged corneal nerves?

Hello guys, long story short, I got dry eyes(in both eyes) about 6 months ago due to contact lens wear. I no longer wear CL anymore. It took me a few weeks to completely recover (confirmed by my eye doctor). However, I still have a strange feeling in my left eye. It has been lingering constantly since then. It is a pressure-like feeling in my eye and also the surrounding tissue/muscle feels kinda stiff/weird but not numb. It fluctuates throughout the day and is not aggravated by eye movement. I might have TMJ problem on my left side too, not sure if this could be the cause of my symptoms.

Fast forward to today, I returned to my eye doctor to have my eyes checked. She showed me that my left eye has some prominent or "obvious" nerves that follow to the center of my eye. She said those nerves are not supposed to be visible. Also, my right eye has none. She assumes that my left eye is straining or somehow working extra hard. Aside of that, she said I have a very mild allergic reaction too. I believe this is why she prescribed me an antihistamine eyedrop. However, what worries me the most is the enlarged corneal nerves on my left eye. My symptoms at worst will feel like a headache in my eye. I am wondering could this be the aftermath of my severe dry eye last time.

After some googling, I found that prominent corneal nerves is an issue of systemic diseases. However, I believe if this is the case it should be bilateral instead of unilateral not?

So my questions are: Could the nerves on my left eye causing my symptoms? Is it an issue to be worried about? How do I get it fixed? What might be the cause?
