What do we know about lacrimal gland infections? Do I or did I have one? Anyone else?

Last summer I suddenly developed extreme aching along with some other symptoms in my left eye, I suspect it was an infection because of how it happened, but I can't find much information on lacrimal gland infections, all I find is about cornea infections but not lacrimal.

I suspect the doctors I went to don't know too much about lacrimal gland infections, is it a rare? Are lacrimal gland infections well studied?
