  • Laser vitreolysis experience

I have been away from the board a while, I have been on here many years. I had an accident in 2016, where a badminton shuttlecock was smashed into my eye.
I have dry eyes and very high myopia so this was just another element to battle.

Yesterday I undertook laser vitreolysis as I have been left with huge floaters after the accident that have really impacted my life.
I discovered in case it helps anyone, that the surgery is extremely low risk if you go to a true specialist. Also the person I saw is one of the leaders in this in Europe and they do treat people that have had PVD/retinal tears - so long as these are fixed first. There is also no impact to dry eye sufferers. The floaters I have we hope will be reduced by 30%, it turns out I have a huge volume of them - probably not just from the accident.

There will be some on here that will reply with warnings etc. People should inform themselves fully before any treatment. I researched the doctor thoroughly and watched his teaching presentations. He is a perfectionist in what he does and does not do the treatment very often anymore as he is very focused on every patient. He has had no complications in his career with the surgery.

I am not saying: go do it, if you are looking for floater hope but I am passing on my experience and what I learned. I saw a lot of people on the internet posting of the warnings but when I researched the field myself it seemed like most people are just perpetuating what they hear and I am sure yes there are some practitioners to watch out for. Indeed also there are many that will not be eligible - it depends on the condition of your eye and where the floaters are. It depends a lot on how you educate yourself on the surgery. I actually live in a country that does not have anyone that practices it, but even my own eye doctor educated himself about it and considered it low risk and re-explained it all to me, which was very kind of him. He will also do my follow up care - not that there really is any but booking some pressure/basic checks after the treatment is sensible.

    Hope it helps some anyway.
