  • My eyes are 70% better thanks to nutrition and detox programme!

Hi guys i've been waiting a while to post on here because I wanted to make sure that I was really getting better, but I cant leave it any longer as I want to give people hope!

I cant believe that im finely posting here! as many of you who know me on here know I tried EVERYTHING with no improvement. I tried: restasis, IPL, compresses, various diets in the past.... nothing worked!!! I had one a VERY severe case of DRY EYE, if you look back at my posts you will see my plight!

I'm happy to say that my eyes have been substantially better for 10 months now. I get abit of dryness now and again now. But I hope that will go with continued programme!

One year ago I embarked on a strict diet and consulted a Nutritional Therapist who specialises in Functional Medicine.

I've been following a DETOX protocol. Diet, supplements, and methods to detox HEAVY METALS /TOXINS.... from my body: Sauna, hot baths... and drinking a lot of water to help excrete toxins.

Basically I WAS VERY TOXIC, most probably heavy metals (you can get tests for this)!!! and over the past year my body has been purged MASSIVE amount of toxins. I got the following detoxification symptoms: metallic body odour, metallic taste in my mouth and others. Basically smelt BAD for the past year LOL! My nutritionist reassured me that this was detox!!

One year ago my nutritional therapist ordered blood tests, which showed VERY LOW OMEGA 3 AND 6 FATTY ACIDS.... well no surprise there!!!!!
Guess what?!!!! After one year doing this diet, supplements, detox programme... my omega 3, 6 blood levels are NORMAL!!!!!!!

Other blood tests she ordered showed lowish B12 LEVELS (VERY IMPROTANT FOR DETOX), now my levels are normal.

BTW id like to add that previously I was on high strength fish oil and it NEVER made a difference to my eyes. And my research tells me that TOXINS can cause malabsorption of nutrients, also nutrients are not able to get to the cells that need them if cells are toxic. So if one is toxic, they need to DETOX first.

I also had a test which showed that I have dysbosis (candida), and I am taking oil of oregano for this and will soon start probiotics (high strength).

I started doing the GAPS diet along with 2 coffee enemas, two months on this diet my eyes were feeling great!

I now don't do GAPS anymore but I EAT lOTS of green veg, LUNCH AND DINNER (this is good for raising Glutathione levels which helps detoxification), I eat lots of fibre as I have always been prone to constipation (if you are constipated, you reabsorb toxins in the colon!).

I eat meat and fish, I try to get grass fed and non farmed fish when I can. Oily fish 3 times a week. I eat GLUTEN free grains, but try to keep carbs to a minimum as sugar/carbs flares candida. I do a lot of veg stir frys, I have found it the quickest and tastiest way to get all the veg in!

I take 2 tablespoons of Bodybiobalance oil per day (omega 3 and 6)

I REALLY FEEL THE KEY TO MY HEALING HAS BEEN DETOXING HEAVY METALS THOUGH. And I think the reason nothing worked in the past was due to this. If nothing works for you or only slightly look into Heavy metal toxicity!!! But make sure you are supervised while detoxing as heavy metals can cause alot of symptoms when they are removed. I would recommend a practitioner who specialises in functional medicine.

I am now training to be a nutritional therapist and specialise in functional medicine!!! I am doing biomedicine at the moment and love it!! GUYS THE BODY CAN HEAL ITS SELF, we just have to give it the right conditions in order to do so!!

My general health is much better, I don't need as much sleep, more energy, not as anxious, feel much better over all. Oh and best bit I can now wear mascara haha!!!!

This is the founder of functional medicine, Mark Hyman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhkLcpJTV9M

Don't give up hope guys it took me 8 YEARS to figure this out, my body was sick, not just my eyes, DRY EYE IS JUST A SYMPTOM of a deeper underlying cause! The body is amazing at self healing. I hope this helps people!!

Congratulations Sazy! I remember you here on the forum when I signed up. I read your posts about the treatments and everything.
    .
Thank you very much for coming back here and post your experience for us who continue in the battle.
    .
I'm also doing a diet that is helping me a lot! To tell the truth I do not know what the basis of it right. The doctor just said, rest assured that I will heal you. After about 20 doctors did not know what to do with you, I'm just following it. And it's working
    .
Today with the relative humidity of about 30%, I have no pain. The only problem is that the redness is hard to leave. Mornings and afternoons are good, but at night it appears.
    .
You have a problem with redness? His treatment helped with this?
    .
Congratulations again. I hope you closer and closer to 100%.
    .
Ps: Post on "Dryeyetriumph" section should be pretty good!

Interesting post sazy - I was just about to post a similar story. Mine is different though. I have Sjogren's, that is a fact. My eyes are extremely dry, burning and photophobic. So dry that when they did the Schirmers test the paper stuck to my eyeball and pulled the skin off. For the last 4 years my eyes always had big red veins going from the iris to the inside corners. Undaunted I have been visiting a naturopath for the past 2 years and the primary thing she has done is of course metal detox. It has been frustrating as the levels are down one time and then when I take a break they go back up. Mercury not so bad as the lead. My mercury levels are now acceptable. I am getting weary of the grind of the chelation and also the expense.

In addition to that she tested my food sensitivities and I have few so I have not made any significant diet changes. I too was low in B12 so I get regular injections. My glutathion levels are maintained by IV thorough the detox as protocol but I now that I am on break I take liquid chlorophyll from Nature Sunshine to boost those in case i don't get enough vegies. I have a variety of nutraceuticals she has recommended based on my profile and in addition I have been taking oils recommended by my optometrist called PRN (Physician Recommended Nutraceuticals).

I bought a book on Autoimmune System Cure, the crux of which, for me, was to add fermented foods to my diet. I am not a sauerkraut lover/ pickle/sourdough bread lover but what I did find is that I can tolerate is Kambucha tea. I have been fermenting and drinking that for about 14 months as well and it's practically free to make. The other significant thing I am doing is I ordered powered bovine colostrum from Sovereign Laboratories in Sedona Az. and have been taking one heaping tsp per day for the last year and a half as an immune system modulator. I have been on restasis, have plugs, wear moisture chambers, serum drops and use non preserved systane as required.

With all of the above I could be reasonably comfortable until about noon and then the stinging and burning would start to creep in until by evening I was adding drops every 15 min just to be able to keep my eyes open and useful. And always I had the red veins.

Well, suddenly this year I have gradually noticed that they are reasonably comfortable until at least 3 - 5:00. I can tolerate much more light, I no longer need to wear sunglasses on the sunglasses when it is bright outside. I only need to add drops about every hour at night time, but the most amazing thing of all is that one day about a month ago I looked at my eyes and they were not red! I thought it must just be a fluke but about a month has passed and still no red. Oh the veins are still there but if you look at me you see white not red. I for the life of me can't put my finger on what happened to make this change and although I may never be all better and yes I still wear the moisture chambers at all times outdoors and cannot tolerate air blowing in my face I also am about 70% better than I was when I first joined this forum 2 years ago.

Like Sazy said, don't give up hope, you will improve when, through trial and error, you find that combination that works for you....cheers...F/G

I started doing the gaps diet, which I believe started the healing process, along with 2 coffee enemas to cleanse my liver (don't do this unsupervised!). After two months on this my I started excreting mass toxic metals in my body odour and stools. This involved ALOT of green vegetables, grass fed meat, fish and fermented foods, probiotics (start very slow) and bone broths.

I stopped doing this diet as I had constipation so On advice from nutritionist I switched to eating gluten free grains, mainly quoina and oats. TONs of green veg to (in particular brockli, cabbage an other sulphur veg to support detoxification (stir Fried or steamed), soups, salads. Grass fed meat (which has high omega 3 content), sardines, mackerels, Alaskan salmon (these have less mercury content). This is low carb as I also ha candida and carbs feed candida. I hate one piece of fruit every other day.

I was making my own fermented yogurt and veg to rebalance my gut bacteria. Although I stopped because after I started to detox i had a healing crisis where healing was going to fast. I plan to start doing this again.

Diet is very personalised and seeing a naturopath functional medicine practitioner is recommended. Mine put me on better omega 3 oil, as the balance of 3 and 6 is more important than high doses of omega 3 alone.

A healing crisis happens when toxins or candida die off toxins are released into the blood stream from where they are stored in cells To fast for the body to process at once. So you get temp symptoms until the body an process them such as headache, chills, fever are a few. It shows that healing is happening which can be a good thing. If you google healing crisis you will find lots of info.

              How is your daughter doing?

                Hi Farm girl,

Sounds like you are on a good detox protocol. Are you doing the Culter protocol?

There are many ways to detox I have heard good things about the Cutler programme for detoxing heavy metals. I am convinced that toxins play a huge role in the majority of Chronic health problems. Not the only factor however. Toxicity prevents absorption of Nutrients in the cells and toxins are stored in week areas of the body (depending on genetic susceptibility). I have read that Candida gets out of control when a person is very toxic and is hard to get rid off unless the toxins are removed first. They go hand in hand.

I agree re fermented foods and probiotics, this is important. I stopped doing it as I couldn't handle it as my body already had enough toxins to deal with without additional die off from candida, but I will start again soon.

Have you had your Omega 3 and 6 levels checked?

Do you get any detox symptoms when removing toxins, weird smells etc?

                Sazy

I did not have red eyes but I had inflamed inner eyelids, and that has subsided now.

very good news! thanks for sharing your experience.

Did you make metals test before staring the detox? If so, which metals were in high leves in your body?

I didn't actually do a test. I was going to have one but then after 2 months my body started purging toxins through sweat (they smell metallic). I also had metalic taste in my mouth often. So I just went with detox and diet programme and ride it out. I am still purging toxins now but a lot less than 6 months ago. When I used the sauna or a hot bath, the metalic smell would pour out through sweat! (Gross I know lol). A lot of toxins were stored in my head/brain. The brain has high fat concentration and toxins are fat soluble. Every day my head would detox, I'd feel lethargic, drink water and feel something draining down my sinuses (weird sensation!) then it would come out, metallic smelling in sweat. So I'm I'm no doubt it was metals, I don't know which.

I did have a metal sensitivity test a few years ago which suggested in was sensitive to mercury. The nutritionist said that with my health probs that was a good indicator anyway.

Sazy first off thank u so much for the detailed post, gives me hope! Secondly, can you let me know a list of supplements? I am seeing a naturopath and have a follow up soon. I want to ask her if this could be the case for me? I looked up the gaps diet and want to try but don't know how to make bone broth? Any tips? I know so many people are asking questions now lol but I think we all just want to have success too. I also have inner lid redness-this is my main problem! It is super stubborn

Hi faith im happy to answer questions!

You can ask your naturopath to test for heavy metals. The challenge test is supposed to be the most accurate.

I would suggest you get the GAPS diet book it explains everything you need to know, the steps are in there also: http://www.amazon.com/Gut-Psychology.../dp/0954852028

Even though the books title is ''psychology syndromes'' but Dr Natasha Mcbride has said that people with physical conditions will benefit the same from the diet and she is working on a book for physical conditions.

It is quite hard work with the bone broths but i think it helps get healing going, it did for me.

The supps im currently taking are

1 tablespoon of Body bio balance oil 4 to 6 twice a day
1 500 mg of Mag per day
1 cap of oil of oil of oregano (designs for health) per day (will increase gradually to 4 eventually). For candida
15 drops of milk thistle in water (to aid detox) x2 per day
Ive only just started Zeolite (for detox) x2 day
HCL betaine tablets with meals to help breakdown protein for better absorption of B12 and other nutrients. I was using this as my stomach acid was low, which the Bicarb test suggested, but ive just stopped taking it more as i think my stomach acid is now good.
I dont take B12 supps any more as my b12 levels are now normal
I started taking Biokult probiotics at first but havent for a while (these have to increased slowly)

This approach was tailored to me after blood tests showed that I was deficient in several nutrients. This is the basis of functional medicine/nutrition.

I would suggest that you ask your naturopath to do blood tests for a range of nutritional deficiencies. Because you may not need to take the above supps if your levels are ok in a particular nutrient, but there might be others you are low in and might want to take.

I had a panel of tests including Vit b12, Iron, Vit D, Magnesium, Liver profile test, Omega 3 and 6 (it was nice to see but i already knew this one!), organic acids test (looks for yeast, bacteria).

Does your naturopath do blood tests for nutritional deficiencies? If not someone who specialises in functional medicine will do them.

But the diet is definitely the first place, most impo to start, because its easy and cheaper to increase all nutrients through diet.

I ate LOTS of ORGANIC VEG! Its is more nutrient dense than normal veg
Grass fed meat and Non farmed fish where ever possible (gets expensive though so havent been doing as much lately!)
Key for me when I started to detox was short Sauna sessions and 10 mins in hot bath to SWEAT out toxins!
I drink lots of water... only when thirsty! detox made me very thirsty.
I did 2 coffee enemas to clense my liver (but consult natropath about this as need guidance!)

I had to take things very slowly and not do to many things to start with because because die off/healing crisis can occur.

Thanks for the update Sazy- A couple more questions….
                            1. How long before you noticed results?
                            2. What else did you do for metal toxicity other than the sauna and hot baths? Did you do the chelation therapy?

                            Thanks!

PS- Congrats Farmgirl! So happy to hear about your progress
