  • flap placement can cause dry eye?

I saw Ming Wang in Nashville this week and he told me that since my corneas were so steep, when the laser made the middle flat, the flaps weren't stretched enought to fit all the way back down on the lower end. He could see it, but eight other cornea specialists I've seen could not !!!!. He said if the flap isn't laid back down in correct position lock and key as before, nerves have a harder time healing. He wants to relift flaps and lay back down. Oh GOD! So my question is - by raising the flaps I'm severing what nerve growth I've already started - will the nerves regrow again correctly and my healing will be faster and better? or am I taking too big a risk, I don't know what the F*** to do. Sorry, I am just beside myself in this trauma.

Oh my gosh! Well, if only 1 out of 8 corneal specialists found this -- I would probably try to get one of them to check on your eyes again. I tend to think that any flap lift would put you back at square one. After all my lasik issues, I just won't let anyone near my eyes for a very, very long time.

Did you get special contacts from Dr. G? Are they helping with your vision? I'm so sorry to hear about this new realization. Trama is definitely the right word. I'm dealing with that mentality and trying to get a handle on everything too.

Keep us posted -- also maybe post to Dr. Latkany he might have a thought on this.

I did see Dr. G back in August and I got 3 different pairs of contacts 2 RGP and 1 new wavefront softlens. For me, they didn't take away my major symptom of glare, did do a little on the starbursting, but not enough for me to wear Dr G thinks my abberations could be from the lens. I was very disappointed that they didn't work out for me. I am to the point that I've run out of money, and all I want to focus on is healing the dryness.
