  • Has anyone had Implantable Lenses?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had implantable lens surgery to correct their vision and if it made their dry eye worse or not?? thanks.

Miranda, I had lasik on both eyes 7 years ago and both eyes became dry. The left worse than the right. Two years ago, I had cataract surgery on the left eye....which involved an implantable lens.....and it kicked the already dry eye up a notch. This may not happen for everyone, but I know it is a possibility. I think others have verified this.

There's a new ICL called the Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens), it's flexable and is inserted folded up and only requires a 3mm incision. It's placed between the iris and lens.
Though even if the risk of causing dryness is small (I haven't found any info on that) there are additional risks involved with surgery inside the eye, like damage to the natural lens, increased IOP, retinal detachment, etc.
