  • Laser consent form

    Hello,
I'm not a post-lasek patient but can anyone who is remember the consent/disclaimer form and why they needed to sign it? Surely if things go wrong it is not to be disclaimed by the operator?

It is basically a statement by the patient that the risks of the procedure have been presented to them and that they understand them. I think the ostensible purpose is compliance with disclosure laws (patients have a right to be informed before they consent to a surgery, hence "informed consent"). However, in the event of a malpractice lawsuit or product liability lawsuit, what the patient signs is obviously going to come into play.

For an example of a consent form for lasik, try this link and scroll down to the Refractive Surgery section.
