  • Did LASIK cause it? The chicken or the egg?

    What do you guys think?

I had LASIK and, like so many, my dry eye problems began a few months after.

Now: My dry eye doc says my inflammation is all in my LIDS, and NOT on the surface of my eye. Perhaps this is naive, but I guess I'm wondering how a laser can damage your eyelids. Or is it that decreased tear production from the LASIK has slowly been what's enflaming the lids? More likely, right?

Sorry to ask a "duh" question, but the logic of this sometimes eludes me.

Well I have both tear deficiency AND gland problems post lasik. My guess is that I had some amount of gland problems from contact lens were....but the combo of dryness led to more inflamation and more problems.

So yeah, lasik can certainly cause lid/gland problems. One of my docs says that many people don't have great gland function, but would never know it......soon as there are other issues though, it becomes a problem.

I'm struggling with dryness 6 months post op.

I had no symptoms of anything that I was at all aware of pre-lasik. I think lasik can definitely trigger all sorts of eye problems.
