Hello, and welcome. I too had lasik -- Dec. 2007. And have suffered dry eye and other issues ever since. But dry eye hurts, so it's the worst of my complications.

This board has been a god send. I've met amazing people who inspire me to keep going and keep my head and hopes up. I feel WAY better than I did when I first started having problems. A combination of healing, treatments, and handling the stress, depression and anxiety. I'm not any meds, but I did do counseling a few times. I mostly get by thanks to my dry eye buddies.

I would seek out a different specialist and get some other opinions. I don't have the luxury of too many different doctors, since I am with Kaiser HMO, but feel like I have a good doctor who is open to a lot of things.

Hang in there -- things will get better.

Hi,

Is the pain beig caused by dry eye or the growth of the cells? Is your lasik surgeon performing these surgeries or are you seeing a new Dr? Have you been given any way to deal with the pain you are in?

I to am a Lasik patient just past my one year anniversary. I am seeing an improvement the last few months, though it is not as consistent as I would like. My heart goes out to you needing more procedures on a eye that is trying to recover, but yes it will get better, but it will take time.

Are you taking Oega 3 oils. They are very important for the eyes, and most people here take them.

i changed to another dr because i didnt trust my surgeon anymore.
thats why i have to pay all these operations. they would be free at my surgeon. my dr says the pain come from dry eye only and that i couldnt feel these cells, but i also read something different on the internet. i read there is often a foreign body sensation and i think thats quite obvious cause there are foreign cells where they should not be! under the flap!

Have you been given any way to deal with the pain you are in?
sorry my english is not that good. do u mean if i do something to fight the pain?

i take fish oil but not every day. i know i should :-)
how much shall i take? i take two tablets but i dont know how much omega3 is in right now. i have to look that up.

my dr says there will be an improvement and that it will take long.
but the thing is, as u said, that i dont give my eye the opportunity to recover cause the flap is lifted again and again...
these damn cells have to stop growing in!!!

maybe i can forget about this hard time one day, if this is fixed and i will feel better...

Feo, I'm really sorry to hear what you're going through. Unfortunately epithelial ingrowth is a complication that happens more often when there have been multiple surgeries (enhancements).

Yes, you CAN recover completely from this although as your doctor's said it really does take time and your vision in the end may not be as good as before. But I'm concerned at the recurrence after multiple surgeries. Did the surgeon just lift and scrape? Or did they suture the flap down afterwords? Also, I think that technique and skill are really important factors in that procedure in order to prevent recurrence. In your situation I'd be looking for a well-known expert in treating this kind of complication if possible. I'm sorry I don't know anyone in Germany to recommend.

As regards the pain... lots of good ideas on this website and in the forums for getting better control of pain related to dry eye. However if I were in your shoes I'd probably be trusting that instinct about it being related to the epi ingrowth.

If you've had two surgeries with this same doctor and have had another recurrence, I'd definitely be looking for another doctor, someone who has a good strong track record with treating this. Best of luck to you.

Hi Rebecca,

i am really sorry to answer so late. Thanks for your post.
it's been nearly 4 weeks now since my last epithelial treatment.
and my vision has improved and remained stable until today so i am optimistic.

there were 3 treatments: first time : lift and scrape
second time: lift scrape and suture
third time: lift scrape application of mitomycin c and suture

this seems to have led to success.
i hope it does not come again. the last times it was there after about 10 days...

the remaining problem is the pain... i think its the stitches. (and of course the dry eye)
one was already removed, 2 remained in the eye.. but i can see one of them in the mirror. i think its lose and thats why it hurts so much.

how come that you know so much about epi invasion rebecca?

I would second what the poster just said.

There are many people over at that other site who know so much about Lasik and I'm sure there are many who have had the same procedure as you. Rebecca helped/set up both of these sites so she really does know alot about this sort of stuff ( a little before my time so I don't know the exact details) I think you may find more help if you were to post on both these sites. Many Lasik people post on both depending on their question.

I really hope your eye holds up for you...you have been through so much it'stime for the healing to begin
