  • 28/m with horrible dry eye

i am obviously to young to have this. However i think mine is due to hormones. I have taken prohormones which basically help with muscles. I think that has caused some of the dry eye because doc says my eyes are dry like a 80 year old woman. My skin is somewhat dry. What hormones could be messed up and what other things could cause dry eye. Could it be soap, shampoo, something else ? I use gentle soap and shampoo with nothing harsh. So that prob isnt it. It gets worse when i workout inside and get hot and sweaty. Could it be the hair gels i use? doubt that? Just trying to figure out what it could be. I started restasis for a month and that has helped a little. Still in mornings my eyes are red. Any suggestions on things to do. ? I REALLY believe its hormones, just trying to figure out which ones, etc....

    thanks

    Hi ShaneA655,

There are so so many things which affect our eyes (perhaps including hormonal changes). I've read some people have issues with their eyes when wearing nail polish. Hair products (gels, hairsprays, etc.) can definitely affect your eyes, if you have allergies to certain products. Keep reading this webiste and you will learn so very much. I wish you the best. yeah, it could be something like that. I am thinking it might be the high percent minoxidil i put on front of my scalp. Think that might be causing hot flashes and dry eyes. Could that be possible. I put this on every night on front of my hair line.....Could that be it? Its very strong minoxidil. So that could be causing this? Who knows.

Hi. I developed this condition with many others at a similar age. I have had ever diagnostic test and for the eyes alone have seen 8 specialist. Anyhow a few thought have you been to an allergist, rheumatologist? I have something called seborrehic dermititis that causes the dry skin/scalp as well. I am also wondering if you have been tested for sjogren's and other auto immune? Well hang in there

          Sensitivities/Allergies cause dry eye

I found some relief from NAET (naet.com) which is a totally non-invasive way of determining what you are allergic to and then removing that allergy in one treatment. Go to the website and you'll see the various books about this process. I read "Say Good-bye to Illness". It's quite insightful. Only acupuncturists are trained in this technique because it requires some needles. I found that I had sensitivities to a lot of basic vitamins. I also found that my estrogen, androgen and progesterone were "off". My recent blood work found them to be normal but that's because the tests only look for significant deviations. Since I've been treated for them I've been able to wear my contacts again. In fact I am having my 8 yr old daughter treated for her shrimp allergy (acupressure is used on kids instead of acupuncture). She can be "cured" without shots and without having an Epi-pen wherever we go.

ShaneA655, you may find that you have sensitivities that are causing the dry eye. This book even talks about how diseases such as MS and Crones are all due to insensitivities.

            Hi

Like Gina, I think it might be seborrheic dermatitis. I have this - it started off with bone dry eyes and then progressed to dry skin, and then it started to get itchy and red.

Your GP can diagnose this or see your derm.

One thing I have noticed is that it waxes and wanes - so hang on in there - you will soon have some good eye days where your eyes feel a bit better.

I started getting my dry eye at 28 too (i am a female) - rosacea and seb derm usually strike around 30-40 years.
