  • new procedure for mgd by N. Carolina md?

My eye specialist today told me about a new procedure (not yet FDA approved) wherein a heated instrument is used to open and manually express the oil glanads--it is being performed by an opthamologist in North Carolina-still in it's trial stages... he offered to give me the name but I didnt' think i would be going to North Carolina anytime soon so I declined..

Has anyone heard of such a thing or know of the doctor in North Carolina?
I may call my doctor tomorrow and request this info..

    thanks everyone!

Is this the dr ****** probe?

i really think we are in the dark ages of dry eye, none of these treatments treat the cause, whats causing the blockage. IPL gets more at a cause for some people. Probing sounds usefull, but sounds like some historic insturment lol
I healed my dry eye with nutrition and detoxification. I'm now a Nutritional Therapist at: www.nourishbalanceheal.com Join my dry eye facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/420821978111328/

The Dr I see has one awaiting FDA approval. He has had it in studies for years. It is a very helpful instrument as I had the oppertunity to be a study paitient for his. Currently he is not using it as its still awaiting the FDA but I cant wait until it makes it through.

Its just a small tool that looks like a pencil that the dr runs along your inner eyelid that is warm and also gently squeezes the glands at the same time. It is a tool that is like a very effective warm compress. I cant really explain it all that well its not painfull and it seemed to drain everything in the glands out. I think it feels the same after a good expression just without the pain of the expression. My eyes always feel deflated when I get teh expressions and with this they feel the same just without the forceful pain of the expressions. The tool is very cool.

            that actually sounds pretty encouraging.

i have often wondered why in this day and age, there's nothing like this that's already out and approved. when i tell my family or friends about my problem, theyre in awe that there are not treatment that effectively express the MG's. in fact I believe IPL and probing are the first two manual treatments, and probing seems like a tool made for the early 1900s

sazy's right, we're really in the dark ages here. but i guess it's better being on the horizon of inventions than 100 years ago when there was nothing
