  • rosacea and mgd

I am wondering if anyone who has dry eyes or mgd, also has a little rosacea associated with it? I have been diagnosed with a little bit of rosacea in my eye lids a few months ago and also notice a little next to my nose (sorta along the sinuses, if that makes sense).

It may be totally unrelated to my mgd condition, but was curious.

I have DES, ocular rosacea and some mild facial rosacea.
Every day with DES is like a box of chocolates...You never know what you're going to get.

I also have that combination - DES, ocular rosacea and mild (now) facial rosacea. The facial rosacea flushing occurs almost exclusively on the right side, my right eye is by far the worst eye as far as DES goes.

I have also been diagnosed with ocular rosacea/mgd. I have mild facial rosacea, but rarely get flushing. The two main triggers for me are sunlight and excessive heat. In the summer I will occasionally have flushing and I notice my eyelids are more inflamed when this happens so there is definitely some kind of connection with my skin and the way my eyes feel.

          Hello

I also have mgd/bleph which I found out from Dr. L was caused by Rosacea, which I or none of the other Opthamologists and an Immunologist Opthamologist specialist in Boston were aware that I had.
Thus,I went for many months using heat on my eyes(which was excruciating) which is what they all kept insisting I do.
Thanks to Dr. L I am now seeing a derm and a NEW Opthamologist and hoping for some progress.

Thanks for all the responses. I noticed a little on my face. I received Doxy for that, but didn't do much good. Actually nasonex used to take care of it, but not anymore.

What is the treatment for ocular rosacea anyway, besides tetracyclines, cool compresses, and possibly IPL??

That's about it which is what makes it so frustrating (for me anyway). I'm now looking into IPL since that's all I have not tried. I'm very self-conscious about my red eyes and nothing else has helped. They say that if you get the facial symptoms under control that the eyes will improve also, but I, like many others have eye symptoms that are far worse then the face. Even so, I have used a number of different facial treatments from the derm but none have made any difference for my face or eyes unfortunately.

I'm starting to think I should consider doing this also... when I've gone through a week or two of eating ridiculously healthy and avoiding high glycemic index foods, my MG's did seem a bit better... then when I started back up on having junk food every day (just a treat here and there) my MG's looked a bit worse again...

                    This has happenned twice now...

I'm still not 100% sure that it's not just a coincidence, but, since I still have a few pounds I want to lose since having my last baby, I figure maybe I should give the perfectly healthy eating thing a more long term try... if it helps my MG's, that would be soooo nice, and worst case, if it doesn't, then at least I'd be able to fit into all of my old pre-baby clothes again!

i also have the same diagnosis...

The things that helped me was doxy 100 mg twice a day...going on month 3...and going to continue till I dont see any more improvement and then start reducing from there. I get better everyday. It also got rid of my minor facial rosacea. I switched to tea tree oil full strength on my face daily for only 4 min...VERY lightly around my eyes, then wash with cetaphil soap and then moisturize with jojoba oil. With this routine I dont have blackheads anymore too!

This routine got me to around 80 percent. Then I was reading old posts from poster NYER about heart burn medicine...and said she found it can give you dry mouth and eye...so I stopped my once a day prilosec. Now I treat it when I get a flareup and am using an antacid with famotidine...my eyes got better within a week of stopping my daily tablet. I am now 90 percent better and not using drops...humidifier...nor goggles when at home and not working. I still use my goggles at work and today I got off a 24 hour shift and my eyes were only slightly red. The best they have ever looked when getting off of work. So...if any of you take heart burn medicine....try it and post to see if it helped you all all. I will be real curious.

And one more thing...i tried doxy years ago...and it didnt do any good. My theory is that my eyes were so far gone I couldnt feel any improvement. It seems you have to work on one issue at a time. The first thing for me that got me on my improvement was honey on the eyelids..got the inflamation down..and got the oil glands working. If you did try doxy and it didnt work...it may take you 3 to 6 months...it took you years to get to this point...and its going to take awhile to get healthy eyes again....good luck to all and I hope something will work for ya!

for my dry mouth I am now taking exovac...it works well! Dont know if it also contributes to moisture in my eyes....cant really tell, but I have been seeing an improvement...so maybe...?

yep, i too have facial rosacea and ocular rosacea and resultant MGD. my facial rosacea is not even noticable most days, however my ocular rosacea is terrible! why the eyes are so bad and the skin is not is beyond comprehension.

not much has really given me significant improvement so far...i did stop warm compresses though and i think that may have helped.

my best eye day since all this started was right after we got snow, a rarity in the south. i was out in the snow for hours playing and two days later my eyes felt MUCH better, looked better and i could see a tear film over them. then it got hot again and the troubles started back.

I have some minor blood vessels on my cheeks, but nothing very extreme. I see a dermatologist every year for a well visit (skin check) and she never mentioned rosacea. About two months ago, I seemed to be flushing all the time. I am not really sure of the cause, but it seems to have calmed down.

A few months ago, I was diagnosed with ocular rosacea, and the treatment was to discontinue all drops/ointments and to apply cold compresses instead of heat.

My eyes do feel dry and burn towards the end of the day, but the redness and inflammation has definitely decreased.

I also have stopped all drops(except I was told to rub AzaSite along my lids and do massage, expression)and noticed my redness has lessened.
My eyes feel somewhat ok at waking but worsen as the day goes on.
My biggest concern now is the flares that I get which take days to calm down.
I have tried documenting my diet(Gluten-free),staying out of sun, wind, cold and the flares seem to come from nowhere at their own will.
I feel the most difficult aspect of ocular rosacea is finding skilled medical support of which there is NONE!!!!!!!!!
We need docs who WANT!!!! to help us and as I wouldn't wish this condition on the devil,we need a doc with untreated ocular rosacea to get the ball rolling in the medical field!!!!!!
                              Best wishes to ALL!
