  • Blepharitis, dry eye, and ocular allergies treatment

I've had bad allergies and blepharitis my whole life.

Whenever I do lid scrubs my eyes and eye lids look really red and puffy the next day. I thought I was doing them too hard but I tried being more gentle and same result. How do you do them?

Putting a warm compress on my eyes for bleph makes them really red and they stay that way for the whole day. I think the warm compress irritates my eyes.

When I wake up earlier than normal my eyes are really dry gritty and red and stay that way throughout the day.
    Ideas for the cause? Suggestions?

I'm really self-conscious about having red eyes and use allergy eye drops or pataday almost every day. This makes my eyes less red but makes my eyes dry out a lot later on during the day and I'm really looking for another solution.

My eyes also tend to dry out around 6 pm and continue to dry out and get red until I go to sleep. This really sucks being in college and whenever I go out at night I look like a freak.

I'm really looking for a solution to the blepharitis, dry eye, and allergies. So far it's been really hard to balance treating the 3 without making my eyes get really red.

Any insight into my situation would be greatly greatly appreciated.

    Thanks so much

    better treatment

    Hey,

I hear your having trouble with your skin

heres some insight as to why your blepharitis isn't getting better,

    standard blepahritis treatment
    washing the eyelids with soap
    using hot washcloths/compresses
    expressing the meibomian glands
    and using artificial tears

this whole treatment dries out the eyes and the surrounding skin causing the condition to become worse thus you tend to get dry eye.

If you want some real results

in the mean time use OTC eyelid foam cleanser by thera tears
use your fingers NOT a washcloth to scrub your eyelids
then Use the showerhead in the shower and spray warm/hot water on your closed eyelids....for 5 mins, then express the meibomian glands do this 2 times a day

then after your out of the shower and your eyelids are dripping wet get some sibu seabuckthorn oil cream and put it on your eyelids

Use soothe XP or systaine balance eye drops Sparingly
Oil based eye drops will help

I would use systaine preservative free vials if your going to use eye drops a lot

get some sun, and let your skin absorb vitamin D

also go to the health food store and buy some borleans FLAX SEED OIL start drinking like 2 table spoons daily

and take some thera tears eye vitamins

DO THIS RELIGIOUSLY!, and if you notice like acne or pimple like heads on your eyelid margin....thats not good, Look in the mirrior...and see if it is

IF IT IS you need to get to an ophthalmologist immediately, and get on 200mg of oral doxycycline a day for 6 weeks.

DO THIS RELIGIOUSLY NEVER STOP, you let this go it will cost you your life
if you do not take care of your blephairitis quick you might end up getting MGD meibomian gland dysfunction and or really bad dry eye.

It could get so severe I KID YOU NOT IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS YOU COULD GO BLIND ULIMATELY!

your eyes could dry out to the point of your eyelid scratches them...if that will motivate you, if you do not treat this condition quickly, efficiently and keep it up non stop.

good luck and may god bless you with moist eyes
    Sincerely,
    Goeyes

I know your advice to jhollister is well intentioned but isn't this scare-mongering? As you well know, this condition is an individual thing. If I used an OTC product, my eyes would be worse. And I had severe MGD before I developed anterior blepharitis - although I'd had it in mild forms all my life.

        Hi jhollister,

Do you mind if I ask what you use to scrub your eyelids? I've tried wipes, baby shampoo etc and I've found warm water on cotton wool the best for me. If they get really bad I use Blephaclean, but it's expensive for daily use.

This may be highly impractical...but have you tried taking an evening nap? If I have a chance, I'll lie down for an hour with my eyes closed, and it really gives me a boost. A nap lets me get the the end of the day without my eyes going completely bonkers. Unfortunately it's not always an option!
