  • Help, I'm acting in a movie!

    Hi Guys,

I put the odd post on this site from time to time. I usually visit this site when I'm down and need a bit of advice so forgive me for not being a regular contributor. To cut a long story short, I've started acting again and I've taken a break from my job to work in some movies here in Ireland. I absolutely love doing it and I've been told that I have a good 'look' for it. But there is a slight problem. My eyes are totally messing things up for me. To the point where I almost want to just give up. I just came back from filming a movie in a nearby city. I spent 5 days there filming and my eyes played havoc with me. I almost couldn't concentrate on delivering my lines and was over conscious about my eyes looking red and inflamed (which they were). I had the main part so there was a lot of focus on me. I was so stressed over it that my stomach even began to ache. It really was torture and I prayed to God to get me through it. I was worried that my left eye was gonna 'give up' altogether.

    My problem:
I've pretty much self diagnosed myself with MGD. I seem to have very little oils coming out of my lids. The lids are usually inflamed and my eyes are quite troublesome. Particularly the left one. My right one isn't as bad but is still noticeably affected. I don't have much discharge or 'gunk' on my lids.

Please help: Guys, I would love it if you could help me out. Please suggest some diet and treatment actions I should take. I usually do warm compressed every few days but I find they have limiting benefit. Should I take a tear stimulating drop? In Ireland the health system isn't great and doctors usually haven't heard of any proper dry eye treatments. They just suggest taking a artificial tear - pure crap advice. I personally thing artificial tears are bad for your eyes in that they may stop tear production.

To re-cap please help me out here I'd really like your advice on this. I have one or two new movies that I wanna act in but I don't want the stress of the eye thing again!

    A very stressed Huey!

Hi, Congratulations on all the parts you've been getting. It sounds like your career is really taking off!

You mentioned that you had self-diagnosed MGD and your profile said blepharitis. These conditions might be helped with medications like doxycycline or azasite if they are available where you live. It may be that your condition is also caused or influenced by allergies.

I think you should seek some help from a dry eye specialist in Ireland or the UK, if it's possible. Is there anyone on this board who knows of a good dry eye specialist in Ireland?

By the way, I know what it's like to be told to keep adding drops to your eyes (which did not help) by local opthamologists. I just kept searching until I found someone recommended to me by this site who helped to come up with a plan.
