  • No more blepharitis!!

I just got back from my ophthamologist....my blepharitis is gone! That's the first time in 5 years I haven't had it . This is only my second visit to that doctor. At my last appointment, he started me on Vividrin SDU drops (anti-allergy drops) to change the pH balance of my eyes to create an environment hostile to bacteria and therefore blepharitis. It seems to have worked! Because of that, I'm booked in to get punctual plugs at the end of the week! Before, the combination of bleph and plugs was a bad idea as the doctor was worried about a build up of bacteria.

I was actually really surprised that the bleph is gone, because I still have 'foreign body sensation' and what I thought were blisters. Turns out the 'blisters' are actually calcium deposits from dry eye - the sensation of which I was attributing to blepharitis.

My ophthamologist seems to like a challenge - good news for me! I know plugs may not be the final answer to my problems, but they are the most proactive approach yet.

This has been a very good day!!!

      That's great news Suil Eile!!!

Vividrin, by the way, has all these other names depending on what country you're in:

Acromax, Allercrom, Clariteyes, Flenid, Frenal, Gastrocrom, Hay-Crom, Lecrolyn, Opticrom, Claroftal, Intal, Klonalcrom, Cromese, Acromax, Coldacrom, Allergo-COMOD, Cromoglin, Cromophtal, Lomusol, Vividrin, Cromabak, Cromonez-Pos, Cromophta-Pos, Lomudal, Cromocato, Maxicrom, Apo-Cromolyn, Solu-Crom, Oftacon, Allergocrom, Cromobene, Cromogen, Cromolux, Cromolyn, Cusicrom, DNCG, Stadaglicin, Glinor, Alloptrex, Cromadoses, Cromoptic, Cromosoft, Intercron, Colimune, Cromohexal, Cromolind, Cromopp, Diffusyl, Dispacromil, DNCG, Flui-DNCG, Lomupren, Nasivin gegen, Padiacrom, Pentatop, Vividrin, Allergojovis, Allergostop, Botastin, Cromo-POS, Cromolergin UD, Erystamine-K, Iopanchol, Kaosyl, Spaziron, Ufocollyre, Vekfanol, Zineli, Zulboral, Gastrofrenal, Sificrom, Exaler, Cromedil, Allerg-Abak, Pollenase Allergy, Hayfever Eye Drops, Optrex Allergy.

        Thanks SAAG!

Ha ha, Ariel! I think that's the funniest post I've read in quite a while. It really is crazy to have that many names for one medication.

I used it (in it's Vividrin guise!) twice a day for 3 months. Seems to have done the trick. If the bleph returns, I just use Vividrin for a while again. I found it stung the first couple of times, but it was fine after that.

I am so happy that your blepharitis is getting better. It sounds like you have a great doctor and you are on your way. Congratulations!

By the way, I have upper and lower plugs, they do not bother me at all and I have never had any side effects or anything. It didn't take long for the doctor to insert them and overall was no big deal for insertion. Just wanted to set your mind at ease for your upcoming plug procedure.

Suil Eile--- I'm starting to use Vividrin today in conjuction with Zyrtec. Hope those two get along! Zyrtec is doing wonders for me but I still have a mild stinging when I spend hours at the computer. How many days/weeks it took Vividrin to work on your bleph?

That's great news, Just wondered does Vividrin have preservative in? I was prescribed some with pres but stung my eyes so much when it went in that I gave up. My GP has since given me Catacrom without pres and I am finding it really helps, only problem is GP says they are very expensive and she is reluctant to prescribe. They are in minims so I get 30 days supply and try to use sparingly. Maybe if I did what you did twice a day for 3 months I could nail the bleph. Thanks. Liz

Anyone know if Vividrin is the same as Pataday? I tried Pataday since my opthamologist thought my eyes have an 'allergic look' to them. But the Pataday didn't work for me.

Thanks a million, Tearless2. I'm quite excited by the prospect of something new. Glad to hear they've worked ok for you.

Its available with preservative in bottles, but it also comes in single dose unit vials without preservative. The same kind of vials as Vidisic gel...so I coloured in the labels of the Vividrin vials so I could tell the difference without my glasses on! I used the same vial for morning and night, and just replaced the cap.

I'd say it took two months in total. I kept up lid hygiene and used Vividrin twice a day.

My eyes still get tired etc, but there's no more burning sensation (at least not as bad). Hopefully the plugs will help them to feel less dry. Either way, it feels like a step in the right direction

                        hi,

i'm in the netherlands and here it is called allergo-comod (ursapharm).
i've put myself on it just a couple of weeks ago. a trial and error thing, but somehow my eyes have become far less irritated these last few weeks. my diagnosis untill now has always been posterior blep most likely caused by lasek,2005.
so could it be that this is really working for me? or is it just that the weather has changed due to the fall. it is colder and more humid outside and almost all the pollens have disappeared by now.
by experience i've found out that it is very hard to notice what factors are contributing to dry eye and what factors offer relief.
i mean when trying something new to me it is always very difficult to be sure if it is working or not.

                        patrick...

                          Cheers

                            Hi Ell

My GP gave me preservative free vials of Catacrom which I think is the same, but she says it is very expensive and is reluctant to prescribe it! Would be interested if you find version of Vividrin. Thanks Liz

I'm in Ireland, so I'm presuming the brand name would be the same in the UK. It's just called Vividrin, preservative free. Though wouldn't surprise me if it were under a different name

Patrick, I had posterior bleph as well. One of the most frustrating things is when my eyes get better/ worse and I've no idea why! So I really understand what you're going through. I actually find my eyes get worse in winter due to all the central heating. Pollen doesn't seem to bother me that much.
