  • Putting morning saliva in eyes to treat dryness

    HI All,

I would like to discuss one thing. If i try with applying morning saliva to my eyes to lower eyelids for 10-15 mins, will it help or aggravate the situation more for dryness?
Is it safer then putting steroids to eyes?

I'd be worried about causing myself an eye infection from the saliva... I wouldn't do it...

If you are looking for treatment ideas, check out the chapter on dry eye management in the DEWS report:

I agree with SAAG. There is an immense amount of bacteria in the mouth and putting saliva in the eye could cause an eye infection. You should only be putting sterile liquids/gels in the eyes.

Don't put anything non sterile in the eyes. Dry eyes are more vulnerable than healthy eyes so we have to be extra cautious with what we expose them to.
