  • Swelling/MGD

I was wondering if anyone else experiences swelling right below their eyebrows. I'm guessing that's the lacrimal gland area? I have inflammation on my lids as well but I have a lot of swelling in this area as well.. Does anyone else experience this? Or maybe I could have an infection in my lacrimal gland?

Hi, I'm just curious if you ever figured this out? I'm going through the exact same thing, my eyelids are swollen but so is the area under my eyebrows, it causes extra folds in my eyelid and seems to also cause extra skin in the corners of my eyes. Possibly lacrimal duct obstruction?

I notice that I have the extra wrinkles but at the inside upper lid, If you pull up you upper lid and look down if its your Lacrimal Gland you would be able to notice it from underneath. When you talk about the extra skin do you mean the inside corner? I notice that when my eyes are really bad, the lids are very swollen and the skin around my eyes gets all chapped and peeling, thats when I notice the creases on my upper lid the most. really frustrating makes me look terrible really old. also my under eyes too.

I'm confused about how to tell if it's the lacrimal gland, which way do you pull the upper lid and what do you notice from underneath? When I talk about the extra skin, I mean in the inside corners, and on the upper lids right below the brow bone, there are several lines that aren't wrinkles, it's like thickened skin that makes my eyes look droopy. Yesterday when I went to a specialist, he said it is because of swelling...my eyelids are swollen everywhere including the lid margins. This makes them feel heavy and the heavier they feel the more droopy they look. I don't get any chapping or peeling, actually the opposite..it's really greasy in the folds. I get lines under my eyes too now, and it makes me look old and sick =(

Angela..I know exactly what your going through..I have the same thing. I know the docs say to do warm compresses but I believe warm promtotes more inflammation, I do cold compresses. They want warm because the heat will open the glands but the cold with decreases the swelling thus the glands will work better.I have so much inflammation for so long I hoping the gland didn't enlarge. If you google Dacryoadentis (lacrimal gland inflammation) go to images and you can see pics of an enlarged lacrimal gland. You lift you upper lid and look down towards your nose and you can see the gland protuding if it did indeed enlarge. I can't see mine but I def have inflammation there..when I look up if I look in the mirror I can see the gland protuding from my eyelid skin not from underneath. Are you eyelids very red?

I have stopped all warm compresses, they didn't help at all and I think they actually worsened the problem. I have been doing cold compresses but they really don't help. Do you have the folds? It looks like thickened skin..it appeared about a month ago and has been there ever since. The mornings are really bad..the skin droops and hangs. Is this from swelling or is it wrinkles? I really don't understand. It gets better during the day but there are always folds. Do your eyes feel heavy and do you have a headache that goes across your forehead like in between your eyebrows? I have had minor skin peeling but I'm sure it's from all the stuff I've put on them to try and make the swelling go down. The swelling along my lid margin seems to have thickened that area as well and my eye doesn't even have the same shape anymore.

How long have you had the inflammation? I don't understand what this is from, Dr. Bloom said it wasn't from Blepharitis or MGD yet it started a month after I was diagnosed....

I had all the same problems for 3 years. Some mornings my eyelids were huge and the lash margin looked like a purple tube. To cut a long story short, I demanded a swab of the eye surface - I had an infection (I've posted this under "Success Stories). Having tried every possible medication, etc., turns out the ONLY thing that the infection was responsive to was Sulphur. After 4 days of taking a really cheap course of Sulphur tabs, my eyes cleared up. I've stayed on the Sulphur (it's been just over 2 weeks now), and each day is like a miracle. get a swab done asap!!!!!!!!

You have described my lids exactly - like purple tubes at times.

Do you mind me asking if a homeopath suggested taking sulphur? (Sorry - you may have explained this before)
