The redness sounds like it might be papiliary conjunctivitis (reverse of eyelid is reddened, with tiny bumps). I have this in the same area of lid where meibomian glands seem to be failing, and occasionally swelling. That portion of the lid it noticeably thickened compared to the rest (and 'ballooned' alarmingly when I was using gel-type lubricants)

I have just finished a course of topical steroids which apparently reduced the 'papilliary changes' quite a lot, certainly it looked less reddened by the end, but did nothing to help the discomfort; actually I think it might even have made it worse. I don't know what the relationship between papilliary conjunctivitis, rosacea and MGD is, certainly nothing I have taken so far has helped the lid discomfort at all.

Thickened, slightly swollen lid, the pain/discomfort is largely associated with the area of thickening/swelling.

          Antifungals around the eye

          Margaret:
I was asking if an antifungal cream treatment would work on the upper lids from the top, rather than from underneath. I read somewhere researchers found that relieved some swollen eye lid issues
I am very interested in this. I've read antifungals can be nasty around the eye and systemic antifungals are a last resort. But...

Propamidine isetionate (Brolene OTC in the UK) has antifungal properties http://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medi...ene+Eye+Drops/ and our ophth is trying it with the normal antibacterials. I am interested in how normal skin fungus might affect the meibomian glands, particularly in seborrheic blepharitis when there is overgrowth of Malassezia. We are smearing it along the lid margins at the moment to avoid the eye surface, where it has been stinging but isn't needed. We are also using an antimicrobial face wash rather than just antibacterial for acne rosacea.

Yes, me too. I have taken Diflucan years ago before pregnancy and I'm curious and want to try it to just see if that would help! I know, I'm sounding desperate, and I'm not, just curious. I just feel like the answer for our issues is OUT there and it just seems so close on one hand and so far away on the other. It gets frustrating. I have a son who has eczema and I flew all over the US to get him diagnosed (it's a strange, non-textbook case) and I was exhausted, anxious, and scared for him. I understand on some degree what you are going through with your child. Now that I'm dealing with my own health issues, I fully understand how our children feel. On the one hand, they've never felt any differently and so my son seems to take it in stride. On the other hand, they are so young and I would love to find some relief for them. UGH, again, I'm sorry.

I've been trying to track down the issue with my eyes for a couple of years now. Mainly a sore dry feeling, or a bit like i haven't washed all the shampoo out of my eye perhaps! I mainly find it difficult "socially", since I find normal eye contact much more difficult than I did previously due to my eyes sensitivity.

I recently went to a private specialist here in the UK who told me I had ocular rosacea and MGD, I was a bit doubtful as my skin doesn't really seem to present any overt symptoms of rosacea (although I am very sensitive skinned generally, and there is an argument that I have sebhoric dermatitis too which I am going to check out more closely). I have been on tetracyclin for about 5 weeks now and I have to say I have seen no improvements at all, perhaps things could even be worse....I was really hoping this would be a magic bullet, but reading the above comments about the amount of eye "routine" that stills exists for long term users of antibiotics is a bit of a blow.....it's starting to drive me mad I just wish there was something more I could do.

In all honestly I don't really know what rosacea even does to a persons eyes, the information online only ever seems to describe the skin condition and rarely the specifics of the cross-over eye condition. Are there any people here who *have* had success with the anti biotics or any other course of treatment?
